Nurse Practitioner, Neuro-Behavioural

Health Services- Long Term Care

Status: Contract Full Time; 13 month duration 

Salary Range: $125,186-$156,484 per annum plus comprehensive benefits

Location: 10 Peel Centre Drive, Brampton 

Hours of work: 35 hours per week 

 

 

Who we are:The Long-Term Care Division requires staff to provide person-centered care to our residents and families following the Butterfly Model of Care. This will ensure high levels of emotional wellbeing and a better quality of life for those living in our homes.

 

Staff are to have emotional intelligence ability to deliver person-centered care in an authentic way that is meaningful to the resident and their family.

 

What you will do in this role:

As a Neuro-Behavioural Nurse Practitioner (NBNP), you will be pivotal in applying advanced clinical expertise to deliver exceptional, resident-centered care. Your role will be instrumental in ensuring high-quality care that complies with all pertinent legislation, making a profound impact on resident outcomes and well-being.

 

The NBNP works under the Senior Medical Director to support long-term care residents. They specialize in managing behavioural and psychological symptoms of dementia, providing individualized care, and overseeing pharmacological and non-pharmacological treatments. The role includes leadership, mentoring, collaboration with interdisciplinary teams and ensuring comprehensive assessment and documentation. They educate staff, support families, and enhance quality of care through ongoing professional and policy development within their specialty.

 

What the role requires: 

  • Current registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario as a Registered Nurse in the Extended Class (Primary Health Care or Adult)
  • CPR certification designed for health-care professionals and standard first-aid
  • Advanced skills in the assessment, diagnosis, management and treatment of the older persons with delirium, depression, cognitive impairment, confusion and behavioural disturbance
  • Must be physically able to perform all delegated duties
  • Vulnerable Sector Check & TB Skin Test
  • Combination of education and experience may be considered

Skills/Abilities: 

  • Proven accurate documentation and dictation skills
  • Exemplary clinical skills, knowledge and expertise
  • Strong leadership, interpersonal and teamwork abilities to motivate, evaluate, and develop staff
  • Effective interpersonal and communication skills 
  • Well developed and proven experience supporting patient/family teaching and staff education
  • Proficiency in basic computer skills 
  • Demonstrate a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion through continuous development, modeling inclusive behaviors, and proactively managing bias

Nice to have:  

  • Post-graduate education and experience in geriatric or long term care, rehabilitation, medical/surgical
  • Public sector experience in support of diverse programs and services
  • Specialty certification in Gerontological nursing

Work Mode & Job Location: On site:10 Peel Centre Drive, Brampton. This position will be working out of multiple LTC homes in the Central West geography. The frequency of on-site activities may vary and is based on operational requirements.
