Communications Coordinator

Corporate Services – Marketing and Communications 

 

Status: (1) Contract full-time position – Up to 13 months

Salary range: $71,698 - $89,624 per annum plus comprehensive benefits

Work mode: Hybrid – you will be required to work onsite at least 2 to 3 days per week, depending on operational needs.

Hours of work: 35 hours per week

 

Reporting to the Manager Strategic Client Communications, Health Services, this position provides communications support to Peel Regional Paramedic Services (PRPS).

 

Peel Regional Paramedic Services is one of Canada’s busiest paramedic services, working 24/7 to deliver exceptional patient care. It comprises more than 800 paramedics, 70 logistics staff and 80 office staff.

 

As Communications Coordinator, you’ll work closely with the Communications Specialist to execute integrated communications solutions. You’ll also work with internal PRPS clients in areas such as Logistics, Culture & Well-being, Community Relations, Education and Management, while working with divisional partners to provide multi-channel communications supports (including digital, video, content, social media and design & production).

 

 

What you will do in this role:

  • Provide support to the Communications Specialist with the development, implementation and evaluation of communications strategies for Peel Regional Paramedic Services.
  • Research and develop a variety of communications materials such as speaking notes, presentations, brochure and poster copy, and content for web pages and digital boards.
  • Edit and proofread content. Follow Peel Region brand guidelines.
  • Manage digital boards and work with design team to develop engaging content.
  • Work with internal partners and external vendors to coordinate the execution of web, graphic design and video projects.
  • Provide support to the Communications Specialist with the planning and execution of communications activities for special events such as award ceremonies, project launches and paramedic station open houses.
  • Use project management software (Wrike) to track and coordinate multiple projects.
  • Take photos for internal partners as required.
  • Execute centralized coordinator responsibilities, including Peel Region social media, councillor newsletters and other tasks as required.
  • Provide communications support during a time of crisis.
  • Build synergies and work collaboratively with stakeholders, seek feedback, share experiences and exchange information.
  • Provide assistance with Quality Assurance standards; contribute to the investigation of concerns and conflict resolution.
  • Identify gaps/barriers and make suggestions to improve team effectiveness.
  • Participate in learning and development activities.
  • Stay up to date with communications industry trends and best practices.
  • Follow Peel Region values.
  • Apply accessibility standards.

What the role requires:

  • A university degree or college diploma in public relations, communications, journalism, paramedicine or a related field.
  • Combined with a minimum of 1 to 3 years of communications experience in corporate communications, paramedic services or an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

 Skills and abilities:

  • Thorough knowledge of communications principles, including Canadian Press Stylebook.
  • Strong writing, editing, proofreading and verbal skills.
  • Basic photography skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Microsoft Outlook.
  • Excellent organizational, interpersonal and time management skills.
  • Ability to handle and prioritize multiple tasks and deliver projects on time in a dynamic environment.
  • Strong relationship building skills.
  • Excellent soft skills, including self-awareness, empathy and political acuity.
  • Ability to work independently and with minimal supervision and direction.
  • Commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion through continuous development, modeling inclusive behaviours, and proactively managing bias.
  • Previous work with paramedic services will be considered an asset.
  • Experience using Wrike as a project management tool will be considered an asset.

Work location: In this role, you are required to be on site at least 2 to 3 times per week at Fernforest Paramedic Reporting Station in Brampton, and, occasionally at another paramedic reporting station. The frequency and location of on-site work may vary from week to week, depending on operational demands, which can evolve over time. 

 

It's important to note that your off-site work location must be within the province of Ontario. This ensures that we're compliant with all regulations and policies.
