Advisor, Public Health Knowledge Brokering 

Health Services- Public Health 

Status: Contract Full Time; 15 month duration 

Salary Range: $100,172-$125,213 per annum plus comprehensive benefits

Location: 7120 Hurontario Street, Mississauga 

Hours of work: 35 hours per week

Public Health supports people in Peel in living their healthiest possible life and contributing to the community with public health programs that are dynamic, inclusive and equitable. Core public health functions are assessment and surveillance, health promotion and healthy policy development, health protection, disease prevention and emergency management.


 

We are seeking a dynamic leader to head our Knowledge Brokering (KB) and Knowledge Mobilization services, focusing on enhancing Evidence-Informed Decision Making (EIDM) within the Department. This role is crucial for supporting Ontario's Public Health Standards and advancing workforce development in public health.

  • Expert Guidance: Mentor staff in EIDM and research application, providing expert analysis and interpretation of research across various domains.
  • Process Management: Develop and renew research application and knowledge mobilization processes, and create tools to support these processes.
  • Training & Support: Identify learning needs and provide training in EIDM and research processes, ensuring accurate application and minimizing bias.
  • Collaboration: Work with epidemiologists, librarians, and other specialists to ensure effective implementation of EIDM methods and tools.
  • Network Development: Build and maintain relationships with public health and knowledge translation academics across Canada to support research application in public health.
  • Supervision: Recruit, orient, and supervise direct reports, ensuring their successful integration into departmental priorities.

This role is integral in advancing public health practices by leveraging research and fostering a culture of evidence-based decision-making.

 

In this position, you will supervise 2 Librarian and Information Services Specialists. 

 

What the role requires: 

  • A Masters degree in a health, education, or other related discipline
  • Three to five years’ experience in public health practice in addition to equivalent experience in research application and knowledge translation processes in a university setting
  • Demonstrated success in supervising professional trainees and providing feedback
  • Detailed knowledge of various domains of research in public health practice including excellent knowledge and understanding of knowledge translation research
  • Highly skilled technical knowledge of research data and interpretation and understanding of statistical analysis methods
  • Combination of education and experience may be considered

Skills/Abilities: 

  • Knowledge of theory and experience with team and organizational change   
  • Excellent teaching and advanced mentoring skills for postgraduate level specialists
  • Extensive and highly skilled knowledge of research design and critical appraisal of research
  • Excellent skill and experience in group facilitation and team building
  • Detailed knowledge of various domains of research in public health practice including excellent knowledge and understanding of knowledge translation research
  • Skill and experience in developing presentations using Power Point and other media along 
  • Strong network of, and ability to link others to, academics to support research application
  • Strong writing and editing skills
  • Demonstrate a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion through continuous development, modeling inclusive behaviors, and proactively managing bias

In this role, you'll enjoy the flexibility of a hybrid work arrangement. This means you'll have the ability to work off-site and on-site as needed, depending on operational needs at the 7120 Hurontario Street, Mississauga worksite. The frequency of on-site work may vary from week to week, depending on operational demands, which can evolve over time.

 

It's important to note that your off-site work location must be within the province of Ontario. This ensures that we're compliant with all regulations and policies.
