Job Description

2025 Summer Student Program

Program Length: May 5, 2025 - August 29, 2025

Pay: $17.37 per hour

Work mode: Onsite and Hybrid work modes (vary based on position)

Hours of work: Regular hours are Monday to Friday, 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM. (Note: Some Operational Support roles may require evening or weekend shifts)

Key Dates (Approximate):

  • January 31, 2025: Job posting closes
  • February 2025: Screening and interviews (returning students are exempt from interviews)

  • August 29, 2025: End date

Opportunities: We have (2) opportunities for you to choose from - Business Support and Operational Support.

1. Business Support

Here's some examples of tasks you may expect in a Business Support role:

  • Interact with internal departments, and external stakeholders
  • Job shadow staff to learn more about your career goals
  • Help manage general phone lines and action requests or direct calls
  • Call clients on behalf of colleagues, scheduling of appointments
  • Write correspondence to external agencies, clients or vendors
  • Work with colleagues on day-to-day tasks and special projects

2. Operational Support

Here's some examples of tasks you may expect in an Operational Support role:

  • Process payments
  • Greet customers, provide excellent service
  • Work at various centres across the Region including community recycling centres, road operations, and TransHelp
  • Maintain and clean heavy equipment, light vehicles, and garbage compactor equipment
  • Provide traffic control
  • Help with landscaping, mowing, gardening, painting and litter pickup
  • Load and unload supplies and equipment

**Specialized positions: There may be specialized positions available in Public Works, relating to civil engineering and environmental sciences**

 

Qualifications and Requirements:

  • Currently enrolled as a full-time student in a post-secondary program or planning to start full-time post-secondary studies in September 2025.
  • Available to work from May 5 to August 29, 2025.
  • Proficient in MS Office.
  • Strong focus on providing excellent customer service.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills.
  • Outstanding organizational and time management abilities.

Additional Requirements for Certain Roles:

  • A valid “G” driver’s license in good standing may be required.
  • Safety boots with Green Patch Certification (note: reimbursement is not provided by the Region of Peel).

 

Nice to Have:

  • Previous experience in office work, labor roles, or volunteering is an asset.
  • Familiarity with manual and power tools is an asset

Location: 

Business Support Roles: Work arrangements may be onsite or hybrid, depending on business needs. The frequency of onsite work is determined by operational requirements. For hybrid roles, your work location must be within Ontario.

Operational Support Roles: These positions are onsite and may require reporting to multiple locations across the Region of Peel.
