Deputy Chief & Manager, Paramedic Operations
Health Services – Paramedic Services

Status: Regular Full-Time
Salary Range: $125,186 - $156,484 per annum, plus comprehensive benefits

Location: 1600 Bovaird Dr E, Brampton, ON
Hours of Work: 35 hours per week, with flexibility to support our 24/7/365 operation

As a key leader in our service, you will play a critical role in bringing this vision to life by working in partnership with the Chief to implement our first-ever strategic plan. Your leadership will help drive innovation and excellence in emergency care, while fostering a workplace culture that prioritizes people, culture, and safety.

What You Will Do:

Leadership and Administration

  • Provide visionary leadership to a diverse team of Divisional Commanders, Superintendents, Paramedics, Analysts, and Administrative Professionals, ensuring the delivery of reliable, quality care.
  • Champion the values of CARE – Compassion, Allied, Responsive, and Effective – in every aspect of your leadership.
  • Support and lead the implementation of the 2024-2028 Strategic Plan by aligning operational goals with our mission to prioritize people, culture, and safety while addressing the evolving needs of Peel’s community.
  • Create and nurture a positive, psychologically healthy workplace culture where employees feel supported, engaged, and empowered to succeed.
  • Act as a representative of Paramedic Services in the absence of the Chief and Director, ensuring operational continuity.

Operations Planning

  • Lead system performance planning and strategic initiatives aimed at delivering unparalleled patient care, enhancing patient experiences, and improving outcomes.
  • Spearhead the development of new services, policies, and procedures in alignment with the strategic goal of advancing health system partnerships and community collaboration.
  • Oversee the implementation of process improvements and special projects that promote innovation and continuous improvement within the Operations team.

Facilities Management

  • Work in partnership with Real Property Asset Management to ensure our facilities support the delivery of exceptional paramedic services across Peel.

Operations Performance

  • Ensure compliance with external paramedic program standards and performance agreements, while using data-driven insights to monitor and improve operational effectiveness.
  • Lead initiatives that support co-designing solutions with health system partners and the community to address the growing and evolving needs of Peel Region.

Budgeting

  • Lead the preparation and management of the Operations Program budget, ensuring fiscal responsibility and alignment with strategic priorities and quality standards.

Emergency Planning and External Relations

  • Maintain critical relationships with emergency services, Ministry of Health, and affiliated agencies to ensure coordinated response in times of crisis and effective implementation of emergency contingency plans.

Certification and Compliance

  • Ensure that all aspects of Paramedic Services comply with regulatory requirements, including records management and health & safety standards.

Labour Relations

  • Support labour relations efforts by participating in collective agreement negotiations, ensuring fair and effective administration of the agreement, and resolving grievances as needed.

What You Bring to the Role:

  • A university degree in a relevant discipline, paired with a Diploma in Emergency Care/Paramedicine.
  • A minimum of five years of leadership experience, preferably within emergency services or healthcare.
  • Expertise in the Ontario Ambulance Act, Occupational Health and Safety Act, Labour Relations Act, and related legislation, along with a strong understanding of paramedic standards and best practices.
  • Excellent strategic planning, negotiation, and conflict resolution skills, with experience driving organizational success through innovation and collaboration.
  • Financial acumen with experience managing multi-million dollar budgets.
  • A strong commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion, demonstrated through continuous development, inclusive leadership, and proactive management of bias.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and industry-specific software.

Work Mode & Location: This role is primarily based onsite at Fernforest Paramedic Station, 1600 Bovaird Dr E, Brampton, ON.
