Corporate Services- Culture & Inclusion 

Status: Regular Full Time

Salary Range: $110,870-$138,589 per annum + comprehensive benefits

Hours of work: 35 hours per week

Are you passionate about driving systemic change and elevating community voices?

 

As the Manager of Equity and Inclusion, reporting to the Director of Culture and Inclusion, you’ll be at the helm of initiatives that challenge barriers, amplify marginalized voices, and build equitable and inclusive communities.  This role requires strategic visionempowering collaborative leadership, and a deep commitment to fostering transformative change.

 

As a leader, you’ll guide and inspire both direct and indirect teams to achieve excellence in DEIA, setting clear goals and driving performance every step of the way. You’ll lead implementation of Peel’s DEI strategy and change management efforts, while guiding divisions through the process of embedding equity and inclusion into Peel programs and services.  Your leadership will be key in implementing strategies that shape policies, transform processes, and support community wellbeing.

 

You’ll develop evaluation mechanisms to track progress on Peel’s goal to decolonize systems and mindsets and capacity-building initiatives, ensuring systemic change through clear performance indicators. You’ll provide strategic guidance to senior leaders and teams working on increasing competencies in equity, inclusion and reconciliation.  

 

You’ll lead the design and execution of capacity-building strategies that elevate Indigenous peoplesracialized communities, and equity-seeking groups, empowering them to participate in decision-making processes and lead community-driven initiatives. Working closely with senior leaders, divisions, and community collaborators, you’ll ensure that all efforts are aligned with broader diversity, equity, inclusion and accessibility (DEIA) goals.

 

A key aspect of your work will be building strong, ongoing relationships with Indigenous communities, ensuring their needs are at the heart of program delivery, while advancing truth and reconciliation. You’ll also develop evaluation mechanisms to measure long-term progress.

 

Your role will also involve leading advisory committees, revising land acknowledgment practices, and conducting assessments to identify and address systemic barriers. You will consult with Indigenous communities and equity-seeking groups, developing community engagement strategies that foster collaboration and empower grassroots initiatives. You’ll collaborate with Peel leaders and community collaborators to create frameworks and resources needed to sustain and advance community wellbeing.

What the role requires: 

  • Master's degree in a related field
  • Strong knowledge of Indigenous research methodologies, participatory action research, community asset mapping, and other research approaches that prioritize the voices, strengths, and expertise of diverse communities
  • At least 5 years of progressive management and leadership experience
  • Combination of education and experience may be considered

Skills/Abilities:

  • Broad awareness of emerging and best practices related to Indigenous community engagement within the cultural sphere across Canada
  • Exceptional knowledge and expertise in decolonization principles, equity-driven frameworks, and consultation/power-sharing practices along with in-depth knowledge of the mandates set forth by the Truth and Reconciliation Commission’s Report and Calls to Action, the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples, and the Report and Calls to Justice of the National Inquiry into Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, Girls, and Two-Spirit individuals
  • Strong understanding of Indigenous cultures and traditions, as well as local connections and demonstrated ability to build and maintain relationships with Indigenous individuals, communities, grassroots collectives, and organizations
  • Experience developing collaborative working relationships with employees from other divisions and organizations to leverage resources, influence system change, measure collective impact and evaluate initiatives
  • Experience empowering staff and project teams by providing regular feedback, strategic direction, and involvement in key decision-making processes where appropriate
  • Demonstrate a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion through continuous development, modeling inclusive behaviors, and proactively managing bias

In this role, you’ll benefit from the flexibility of a hybrid work arrangement that prioritizes meaningful in-person connection. A minimum of two days per week on-site is expected, with additional in-person presence as operational needs evolve. This arrangement allows for a blend of in person and hybrid work that adapts to support both organizational priorities and employee flexibility and is subject to change over time.

 

It's important to note that your off-site work location must be within the province of Ontario. This ensures that we're compliant with all regulations and policies.
