Job Description

Compost Facility Operator

Public Works – Waste Management

Status: One Short Term Contract Full Time position

Duration: 6 Months 

Salary Range: $32.53 - $34.16 per hour

Location: Onsite at 4400 King Street, Caledon, ON

Hours of work: 40 per week:  7:30 am to 4:30 pm  Monday to Friday (AWW in effect)

Under general supervision, performs manual and equipment operating duties in the performance of compost operations.

 

 

 What you will do in this role:

  • Operates and maintains vehicles and equipment necessary for the processing of compost
  • Responsible for inspection, screening and turning of all compost material loads entering the compost facility and removal of contaminates/inorganic materials from loads prior to processing
  • Responsible for all aspects of processing of compost material received at facility including  blending and loading material
  • Ensures duties are performed safely as required by WHMIS, Occupational Health and Safety Act, Regional Policies and procedures
  • Responsible for the bulk loading of finished compost to Region of Peel vehicles, customer and contractors and completion of haulage tickets. 
  • Executes duties in a tactful, timely and courteous manner to convey a ‘positive image’ of the Region
  • Responsible to clean and maintain the overall facility as required and directed, duties will include outdoor work and some exposure to weather conditions

 

What the role requires:

 

  • Minimum Grade 12 education or equivalent with two (2) years job related experience
  • Verbal and written communication skills
  • Capable of accurately completing required forms and reports
  • Physically able to perform requirements of the job
  • Must be experienced in heavy equipment operation
  • Capable of performing minor maintenance
  • Must have basic understanding of bio-logical systems
  • Must be able to multi task and prioritize workload effectively in a constantly changing environment
  • Must possess a valid DZ license in good standing
  • Job testing will be required

 

Preference will be given to qualified candidates who are currently in the CUPE Local 966-Public Works bargaining unit.
