Team Lead, Dietary

Health Services- Long Term Care 

Status: Regular Full Time 

Salary Range: $92,153 - $115,189 per annum, plus comprehensive benefits

Location: Malton Village: 7075 Rexwood Road, Mississauga and Tall Pines:1001 Peter Robertson Blvd, Brampton

Hours of work: 35 hours per week

This role will be accountable for for directing, planning, organizing and overseeing the daily activities of the Nutrition and Food Services Department to ensure the nutrition needs of each resident at the Long Term Care Centre and also the community it serves.

 

In addition, this role includes the management of food service provided for Community Support Services including the Adult Day Service, Respite Clients, and the Meals on Wheels program, as applicable.

What you will do in this role:  

  • Provide departmental leadership to ensure optimal nutritional care, solutions focused, and resident/client centered approach to service delivery 
  • Assists with supervising dietary staff, including hiring, training, developing/coaching, evaluating, scheduling, disciplining and terminating staff if necessary, including any labour matters such as grievance handling and return to work processes
  • Assists with the development, preparation and revisions to work routines for departmental staff; conducts job shadows as necessary to evaluate job performance and/or workload
  • Ensures food productions and service meets safety & sanitation standards in accordance with Occupational Health & Safety, Public Health, Divisional and Ministry of LTC standards
  • Ensures the Dietary Department compliance with all relevant legislation, Regional, and Provincial Standards and legislation pertaining to provision of food and nutrition services in a Long Term Care setting (i.e.: Food Premises Act, LTC Homes Act, OH&S Act and Regulations, WHMIS, HACCP)
  • Ensures adequate dietary records and documentation are maintained in accordance with Ministry standards and Regional Policies and procedures.
  • Assists with managing and implementing Centre specific menu including modifying menu to satisfy specific needs of the Residents of the Centre and to create special and themed meals.
  • Implements established nutritional standards and ensures compliance of modified menus that have been created according to resident preference and needs
  • Evaluates the menu and recipes using established guidelines and auditing tools
  • Reinforces compliance with Divisional menu, including:
    • Standardized recipes
    • Production forecasts
    • Inventory
  • Ensuring manual back up processes are in place for production and recipe
  • Responsible for maintaining and updating Residents’ care plans and electronic food service database
  • Responsible for the nutritional care process of Residents including, but not limited, conducting initial diet histories, quarterly nutrition reviews and dietary referrals for residents at low and moderate nutrition risk
  • Participates in resident/family concern inquiries, admission, end of life and annual care conferences with Residents and families and keep families informed of Residents’ progress
  • Assists with the Centres quality and risk management programs to reduce the level of risk associated with food borne illness, poor nutrition intake and health and safety issues
  • Contributes to dietary related performance indicator reports, including:
    • Inputting data monthly
    • Reviewing, analyzing and corrective action plans for monthly results
  • Communicates concerns regularly to the Dietary Supervisor, Registered Dietitian and interdisciplinary care
  • Develops, revises and implements operational policies/procedures in collaboration with PIE and interdisciplinary peer groups
  • Collaborates with divisional team to develop and update dietary education and in-services and acts as trainer for dietary staff and other interdisciplinary staff
  • Active member of the Dietary Services Peer group
  • Support provision of food services to Adult Day Program and Meals on Wheels
  • Attends in-service training as required and continuing education courses related to the position as the opportunities arise 

What the role requires: 

  • Graduated from an approved program in Food Service and Nutrition Management or equivalent
  • 2-5 years related supervisory experience in a unionized health care setting
  • Member of the Canadian Society of Nutrition Management or a Registered Dietitian required
  • A Bachelor's degree from a health-related discipline or in a specialized health science area
  • Working knowledge of all applicable regulations and legislation pertaining to provision of food and nutrition services in a Long Term Care setting (i.e: Food Premises Act, LTC Homes Act and Regulations, OH&S Act and Regulations, WHMIS, HACCAP)
  • Vulnerable Sector Check
  • Combination of education and experience may be considered 

Skills/Abilities: 

  • Knowledge of nutrition and of therapeutic diets to ensure compliance thereof
  • Knowledge of food preparation systems and processes
  • Knowledge of infection prevention and control practices as they relate to the dietary department
  • Computer skills and knowledge of Microsoft office and PointClickCare applications
  • Demonstrate a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion through continuous development, modeling inclusive behaviors, and proactively managing bias

Nice to have:  

  • Previous Long Term Care or Geriatric experience
