Co-op Students - Analysts, Poverty Reduction Initiatives and Community Engagement (PRICE)

Human Services, Social Development Planning & Partnerships 

Salary Range: $23.74 per hour 

Duration: 14 -16 weeks 

Work Mode: Hybrid *see below for more details about this work mode. 

 

Location: 10 Peel Centre Dr, Brampton, ON 

Hours of work: 35 hours per week 

 

Who we are:  The Human Services department provides support to improve the quality of life for the Peel community. This includes income and social supports, affordable housing, and early years and child care supports. Human Services works as part of the broader social services sector; collaborating with community partners, building capacity and providing funding to respond to the needs of people in our community.

 

Poverty Reduction Initiatives and Community Engagement (PRICE) Unit, within the Social Development, Planning and Partnerships division in Human Services provide the following support to the Human Services leadership team and the divisions in the Human Services department.

 

Poverty Reduction Initiatives team provides strategic and project management support to the Peel Poverty Reduction Committee (PPRC) to advance the outcomes of the 2018-2028 Peel Poverty Reduction Strategy.

 

Community Engagement team provides community engagement support by empowering partners to foster inclusive, transparent, and meaningful collaboration that amplifies the voices of equity-deserving residents for collective impact.

 

PRICE supports internal divisions in the Human Services department with their Community Engagement needs to achieve their goals in the areas of Housing and Homelessness, Income and Social Support, Early Years & Child Care, and Community Investment.We are hiring two students to support us this summer.

 

What you will do in this role:  

  • Conducting research and developing knowledge translation materials and activities related to research evidence, data, and policy.
  • Assisting with data collection, validation, and analysis.
  • Providing support to Poverty Reduction Initiatives and Community Engagement specialists.
  • Translating information into various written and visual communication materials, such as presentations and infographics.
  • Supporting information sessions and outreach activities.
  • Leading and/or assist in facilitations and consultations with clients (internal and external) from a community engagement perspective to support consultation needs, collaboration, or collective action.
  • Coordinating meetings with community stakeholders.
  • Performing administrative tasks, including data entry, records management, and documentation processing.

 

What the role requires: 

  • Currently enrolled in a post-secondary program in Human/Social Services, Sociology or a related field.
  • Knowledge and interest in the non-profit sector, community engagement, and poverty reduction, gained through course work or experience.
  • Strong knowledge of qualitative and quantitative research methods.
  • Proficiency in the following Microsoft Office applications: Visio, Word, Excel, PowerPoint.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion through continuous development, modeling inclusive behaviors, and proactively managing bias.
  • Analytical and critical thinking skills.
  • Political awareness and sound judgment.

 

Nice to have:  

  • Working knowledge of data analysis software

Work Mode & Job Location: In this role, you’ll benefit from the flexibility of a hybrid work arrangement that prioritizes meaningful in-person connection. A minimum of three days per week on-site is expected, with additional in-person presence as operational needs evolve. This arrangement allows for a blend of in person and hybrid work that adapts to support both organizational priorities and employee flexibility and is subject to change over time.

 

It's important to note that your off-site work location must be within the province of Ontario. This ensures that we're compliant with all regulations and policies.
