Inspector, Pollution Control

Public Works – Water & Wastewater

Status: 2 Regular Full-time Positions
Salary Range:
$78,336 - $97,920 per annum plus comprehensive benefits

Location: 3515 Wolfedale Road, Mississauga

Hours of work: 35 hours/week


What you will do in this role: 

At Peel Region pollution control is a critical aspect of our commitment to environmental stewardship and public health. We employ advanced technologies and stringent regulations to ensure strict quality standards, ensuring the well-being of our communities now and in the future.

 

Under the supervision of the Pollution Control Supervisor, you will oversee the implementation and enforcement of the Wastewater Bylaw. Your duties will include conducting inspections of industrial facilities across Peel Region to verify compliance with the bylaw, ensuring environmental compliance, and safeguarding wastewater treatment facilities.

 

Your role is crucial in maintaining the safety and security of Peel's residents, industries, and the natural environment. Additionally, review lab analyses of industrial discharges and determine appropriate enforcement actions. 

 

  • Review industrial sewer charge appeals, sanitary discharge approvals and administer the surcharge and compliance agreements
  • Provide technical advice regarding regulations and legislation. You will lead meetings with external partners, agencies and staff.
  • Conduct abatement meetings with noncompliant industries
  • Prepare daily, monthly, annual and disclosure reports and act as an expert witness as required
  • Mandatory participation as Duty Spills Coordinator on a rotating basis and assist in the annual update of the Public Works Emergency Plan
  • As a Provincial Offences Officer, conduct investigations for the prosecution of offenders of the sewer use by-law in consultation with the Supervisor, Pollution Control and Regional Legal Counsel

What the role requires:

  • University Degree in science or related field, or Chemical Technology Diploma with a Certified Engineering Technologist designation
  • Three (3) years related experience. A combination of relevant education and work experience will also be considered
  • Valid Class “G” license in good standing

Skills/Abilities:

  • Bylaw enforcement experience would be an asset.
  • Good judgment and problem-solving skills
  • Strong report writing skills with a keen eye for attention to details
  • Strong administrative skills and proficiency with MS Office
  • Strong public relations, communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team

Work Mode & Job Location: In this role, you'll enjoy the flexibility of a hybrid work arrangement. This means you'll have the ability to work off-site and on-site as needed, depending on operational needs at the 3515 Wolfedale Road, Mississauga worksite. The frequency of on-site work may vary from week to week, depending on operational demands, which can evolve over time.

 

It's important to note that your off-site work location must be within the province of Ontario. This ensures that we're compliant with all regulations and policies.
