Project Manager, GIS Technology 

Corporate Services- IT Solutions  

Status: Contract Full Time; 14 month duration 

Salary Range: $103,177-$128,969 per annum plus comprehensive benefits

Location: 10 Peel Centre Drive, Brampton 

Hours of work: 35 hours per week

The Region of Peel is seeking a forward-thinking Project Manager to lead innovative GIS (Geographic Information Systems) technology projects that make a tangible impact. This is an exciting opportunity to take on meaningful work that supports the region’s enterprise-wide GIS initiatives, helping to deliver smarter infrastructure and more connected communities.

 

As the Project Manager, GIS Technology, you’ll play a key role in managing the planning and execution of GIS projects across the organization. You’ll collaborate with business stakeholders, GIS advisors, vendors, and internal IT teams to bring impactful solutions to life—on time, on budget, and with purpose.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Lead and deliver GIS technology projects across departments, from planning through implementation.

  • Manage project budgets, timelines, quality benchmarks, and stakeholder expectations.

  • Work closely with internal and external partners, ensuring alignment with business goals and regional strategy.

  • Develop project documentation including charters, business cases, and change management plans.

  • Coordinate project teams and ensure deliverables meet expectations.

  • Regularly report project status and progress to senior leadership and steering committees.

  • Identify risks, resolve issues, and continuously look for opportunities to improve how projects are delivered.

  • Support a smooth operational handover for all completed projects.

What You Bring

  • A degree or diploma in Computer Science, GIS, or a related discipline.

  • Minimum 3 years of experience managing IT projects, including some experience with GIS implementations.

  • Knowledge of project management best practices and methodologies (e.g., Agile, Waterfall, SDLC).

  • Experience with project management tools such as Microsoft Project.

  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.

  • The ability to manage priorities, lead cross-functional teams, and navigate complex project environments.

  • Analytical thinking and a results-driven approach to solving challenges and delivering value.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working with ESRI GIS technologies such as ArcGIS Server and ArcGIS Online.

  • Familiarity with cloud-based GIS deployments (Microsoft Azure, AWS).

  • Project Management certification (e.g., PMP, PRINCE2).

  • Post-graduate diploma or certification in GIS.

  • Understanding of system architecture, service-oriented architecture, and how GIS fits into enterprise environments.

In this role, you’ll benefit from the flexibility of a hybrid work arrangement that prioritizes meaningful in-person connection. A minimum of two days per week on-site is expected, with additional in-person presence as operational needs evolve. This arrangement allows for a blend of in person and hybrid work that adapts to support both organizational priorities and employee flexibility and is subject to change over time.

 

It's important to note that your off-site work location must be within the province of Ontario. This ensures that we're compliant with all regulations and policies.
