Job Description

Peel Region's Transportation Data and Modelling team is hiring! 

 

We are looking for (1) Contract full-time Transportation Data and Modelling Advisor and;

(2) Contract full-time Transportation Data and Modelling Analysts

Public Works - Transportation

Status: Contract Full Time; 13 Month Contract 

Work Mode: Hybrid; 2 on-site days per week which can increase based on operational requirements*see below for more details about this work mode. 

Location: 10 Peel Centre Drive, Brampton, ON 

Hours of work: 35 Hours per week

 

Who we are:The Transportation team constructs, operates, plans and maintains a multi-modal network of assets such as roadways, bridges, sidewalks and multi-use trails, stormwater infrastructure, street-lighting, traffic signals, noise and retaining walls, signs, safety barriers and street trees.

Salary Range: $103,177 to $128,969 per annum; plus comprehensive benefits and vacation accrual.

 

What you will do in the Advisor, Transportation Data and Modelling role: 

  • Conduct transportation model runs using EMME to support the analysis required for the 2051 Transportation Master Plan (TMP) update
  • Act as an expert and resource for Council, management and staff for transportation related matters that impact the Region of Peel.
  • Conduct long range transportation studies, initiate and manage transportation projects, Surveys and Strategic Reviews
  • Design and undertake data collection related to transportation, land use, analyze and make recommendations for policy development studies
  • Build partnership with other levels of governments, consultants and stakeholders
  • Respond to transportation related queries
  • Represent the Region on working committees and technical advisory teams
  • Provide direction and allocate work to other team members
  • Provide expert advice and guidance on the development and implementation of programs.

  • Monitor, identify, analyze and provide recommendations on planning trends, risks and opportunities.

  • Lead Transportation projects, and develop cooperative, collaborative and strategic relationships with internal and local municipal staff.

  • Support Peel Region Transportation Team as representation at the Ontario Local Planning Appeal Tribunal and other tribunals, prehearings, inter-regional initiatives, and in provincial and federal initiatives where applicable.

  • Demonstrate a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion through continuous development, modeling inclusive behaviors, and proactively managing bias

Salary Range: $92,153 to $115,189 per annum; plus comprehensive benefits and vacation accrual.

  • Support the delivery of major transportation projects in the Region of Peel
  • Provide expert interpretation of Transportation legislation, policies and guidelines.
  • Review and provide comments of development applications from a strategic perspective
  • Monitor, identify, analyze and provide recommendations on transportation trends, risks and opportunities.
  • Prepare complex and specialized reports, documents, and briefings for senior staff, Council and standing committees.
  • Lead small, medium and large-scale transportation projects, and develop cooperative, collaborative and strategic relationships with internal and local municipal staff.
  • Support Peel Region Transportation Team as representation at the Ontario Local Planning Appeal Tribunal and other tribunals, prehearings, inter-regional initiatives, and in provincial and federal initiatives where applicable.

Role requirements: 

  • University degree in Engineering or Urban Planning
  • 5 to 8 years of progressive experience, specializing in data analysis and transportation modelling (Advisor)
  • Expert knowledge and specialization in transportation modeling, traffic impact analysis, travel demand forecasting, transportation policy development and analysis, transportation systems evaluation, Transportation Demand Management, and long range transportation network assessment. 
  • Areas of specialization include growth management, environmental planning, demographics, economics, statistical and spatial analysis, modeling, database design and Geographic Information Systems
  • Expert knowledge of the Provincial Planning Statement, Growth Plan, the Ontario Planning Act, as well as other Federal and Provincial legislation, policies and guidelines

  • Knowledge and understanding of Provincial, GTA, Regional, and local Transportation issues.

  • Ability to provide guidance and mentoring to junior technical professionals to assist immediate supervisor with specific work direction and technical training for staff in the section.

  • Combination of education and experience may be considered

Skills/Abilities

  • Experience with transportation modelling software, including EMME and Aimsun
  • Sound communication skills displayed through verbal and written work
  • Strong interpersonal and strategic thinking skills with the ability to support team members 
  • Strong problem-solving skills to help evaluate and provide recommendations
  • Polished customer service skills with an ability to work with a collection of stakeholders
  • Proven organizational, multi-tasking, time management, planning and project management skills to organize resources and manage priorities in a fast paced, constantly changing environment
  • Excellent communication skills to work with clients, technical team, management and executive level staff in order to communicate technological principles and information in an audience-friendly manner
  • Demonstrate a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion through continuous development, modeling inclusive behaviors, and proactively managing bias

Nice to have:  

  • Membership in PEO or OPPI /CIP would be considered an asset 
  • Master’s degree or additional postsecondary education in transportation planning is considered an asset

Work Mode:

In this role, you’ll benefit from the flexibility of a hybrid work arrangement that prioritizes meaningful in-person connection. A minimum of two days per week on-site is expected, with additional in-person presence as operational needs evolve. This arrangement allows for a blend of in person and hybrid work that adapts to support both organizational priorities and employee flexibility and is subject to change over time.
