Assistant Technical, Curbside Advisor

Public Works - Waste Management

Status: 1 Temporary Part Time Position, duration 6 months

Compensation: Hourly Rate: $31.11/hr to $38.89/hr plus 6% in lieu of benefits

Hours of work: no guaranteed hours of work: up to 35 hours of work per week

Location and work mode: Onsite at 7795 Torbram Rd, Brampton – travel required to various locations within the Region of Peel

 

Reporting to the Team Lead, Waste Collection you will be responsible for working with the Waste Collection & Processing and Waste Program Planning teams, the mandate is assisting residents in person by addressing correct curbside set-out times, days, types of containers and acceptable materials.

 

What you will do in this role:

  • Provide on-road support for the implementation of the Region of Peel's Bi-weekly Collection Program
  • Educate and engage residents at curbside about waste volumes, cart usage and appropriate cart size choice based on household type
  • Assist with outreach events at public locations within the Region to demonstrate cart sizes, correct curbside set out and promoting waste sorting and minimization,
  • Confidently present to residents the Region's sorting and curbside set-out procedures
  • Educate and engage residents about waste management issues and help promote the Region's various waste minimization programs, specifically the weekly Green Bin program
  • Provide on-road support to Waste Collection By-law Enforcement Officers
  • Monitor and report on the contracted cart delivery to households 
  • Provide support directly to residents who may have difficulty with cart set-out or confusion about their bi-weekly collection day
  • Document and report all curbside issues and complaints
  • All other duties as assigned

What the role requires:

  • Completed high school diploma or equivalent education
  • Display a keen interest in waste management and environmental education
  • Polished customer service skills and strong communication skills both orally and via written work
  • Willingness and comfortable to engage confidently as a subject matter expert with members of the public
  • Possess a valid G driver's licence in good standing
  • Working knowledge and experience with Hansen Software
  • Ability to work without direct supervision
