Senior Developer, Application Portfolio Modernization (APM)

Corporate Services – IT Solutions

 

Status: (1) Contract Full Time; 8-month duration 

Salary Range: $92,153 - $115,189 plus comprehensive benefits

Work mode: Hybrid* see below for more details about this work mode. 

Location: 10 Peel Centre Drive, Brampton

Hours of work: 35 hours/week; Monday to Friday. * Flexibility required to travel to various regional locations, work evenings, weekends, and on-call rotation

 

The Senior Developer brings expertise to the team ensuring that the applications meet effectively and efficiently compatibility, information and process automation requirements of the client.

The Senior Developer is responsible for the prompt resolution of complex problems in the technical environment (problems may include complexity in migration to new Windows operating system) and for mentoring Developers on technical matters.

 

Responsibilities: 

  • Support both IT project and Application portfolio management modernization work
  • Led in-depth assessments of application installation requirements, including prerequisites, licensing, and technical specifications, through collaboration with vendors, internal teams, and end users.
  • Authored and maintained comprehensive installation guides to support application upgrades, repackaging, and virtualization processes.
  • Identified and evaluated application dependencies, ensuring compatibility with the Windows 11 operating system environment.
  • Conducted extensive testing of application packages, coordinating results with packaging teams to ensure quality and functionality.
  • Worked closely with the Technology Support (packaging) team to validate and deploy applications via SCCM (System Center Configuration Manager).
  • Facilitated preliminary functional testing with end-users to verify usability and performance prior to deployment.
  • Acted as liaison between packaging, testing, and help desk teams, effectively troubleshooting and resolving Windows 11 compatibility issues.
  • Performed technical assessments of departmental application portfolios, determining system integration requirements and OS compatibility.
  • Supported issue resolution during testing phases and contributed to remediation strategies for compatibility challenges.
  • Maintained and updated key documentation including Application Installation Qualification Test Reports and the Master Application Inventory.
  • Documented, tracked, and analyzed application assessment issues, identifying process improvement opportunities to enhance team efficiency.
  • Ensured alignment with internal IT standards, continuously upgrading skills to stay current with evolving technologies.

What You Bring:

  • University or college graduate in computer science or related discipline with minimum 5 years application development experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • At least 2 years experience providing advice, mentoring and expertise to team members
  • Strong understanding and hands-on experience with software development tools including VB6, VB.Net, ASP, ASP.Net, ADO.Net, C#; MS SQL Server, T-SQL; ORACLE, Toad, Erwin; HTML, XML, Web Services, IIS; Visual Studio 2005/2008/2013 / Visual Source Safe / GitHub; Crystal Reports 8.5/9 or higher; Office 2016; MS Access 2010
  • Experience in production application migration from Windows 7 to Windows 11 environments across the enterprise (1-2 years preferred)
  • Experience in creation and maintenance of application installation instructions utilized successfully by other technology support staff, including application upgrades; assisting with repackaging; and virtualization is preferred
  • Proficiency and experience in gathering user requirements, understanding business processes and creating solutions based upon requirements
  • In-depth knowledge of object oriented design (OOD), object oriented programming (OOP), unified modeling language (UML), model driven architecture (MDA), and service oriented architecture (SOA)
  • In-depth knowledge of integrating complex applications on the desktop and across wide and local area networks is essential. 
  • Aware of best practices in Information Technology service delivery such as SDLC, PMBOK, COBIT and ITIL
  • Demonstrated attention to detail, practical problem-solving abilities, ability to proactively identify opportunities and quickly implement solutions

Nice to have:

  • Experience implementing application remediation of Windows 11 compatibility issues (preferred): for standard Windows 11 desktop environments. Also for remediation via Windows 7 desktop running within a virtualized (e.g. Citrix) environment
  • Experience with ServiceNow Enterprise Architecture module will considered an asset
