Public Health Nutritionist

Health Services – Chronic Disease and Injury Prevention

Status: (1) Contract Full Time –13 Months

Salary Range: $92,153 - $115,189 per annum with comprehensive benefits

Hours of work: 35 hours per week

The Chronic Disease and Injury Prevention division of Peel Public Health supports the advancement of chronic disease and injury prevention through critical program and policy analysis, monitoring and assessment of legislation, data analysis, completion of evidence reviews, and the writing of reports/corporate communications.

The Built Environment Team is looking for a Nutritionist with Public Health experience & proficient research and analytical skills to assess and influence the community food environment and improve access to healthier food options in Peel. In this role, you will collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to blend research, policy and practice to promote healthy complete communities in Peel.

What You’ll Do:

  • Serve as a subject matter expert on complex nutrition and dietetic issues.
  • Analyze emerging nutrition trends, risks, and opportunities to support strategic public health decisions
  • Monitor, develop, implement and advocate for nutrition-related policies that will have positive population health implications
  • Interpret and analyze complex information to provide strategic recommendations that will guide policy and programming decisions
  • Translate research into practice by interpreting and synthesizing data to shape policy, planning, and programs
  • Synthesize complex information into a wide range of written and visual communication products - including reviews of research evidence, briefing documents, policy positions and presentations- that influence decision-making at all levels
  • Apply advanced knowledge of public health and/or technical knowledge regarding population health, social determinants of health, epidemiology and evidence-informed decision making
  • Ensure equity, diversity, and inclusion are central to all research, policies, and public health strategies
  • Represent Peel at conferences and forums, and lead knowledge translation efforts to bring research into action

 What You Bring:

  • Master’s degree in Applied Science with a focus on community or Public Health Nutrition (or a related field)
  • Registration in good standing with the College of Dietitians of Ontario
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in public health nutrition, with strong grounding in current nutrition science, policy, and practice
  • In-depth knowledge of current food and nutrition issues and trends (e.g., policy, regulation, food environment, food access), determinants of health and health promotion principles and strategies
  • Experience in evidence-informed decision-making methodology, project management, project leadership
  • Experience in informing and developing policy and health promotion programs
  • Expertise in both qualitative and quantitative research methods, including critical appraisal and data interpretation
  • Experience with epidemiological study design and application of research evidence in practice
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively within an interdisciplinary team setting and across organizational boundaries
  • Strong written and visual communication skills, including the ability to distill complex information into actionable insights
  • Demonstrate a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion through continuous development, modeling inclusive behaviors, and proactively managing bias

In this role, you’ll benefit from the flexibility of a hybrid work arrangement that prioritizes meaningful in-person connection. A minimum of two days per week on-site is expected, with additional in-person presence as operational needs evolve. This arrangement allows for a blend of in person and hybrid work that adapts to support both organizational priorities and employee flexibility and is subject to change over time.
