Co-op Student, Technical Assistant

Public Works – Transportation 

 

Status: Temporary Full Time (Fall 2025)

Salary Range: $23.74 per hour

Work Mode: (Hybrid)  *see below for more details about this work mode. 

 

Location: 10 Peel Centre Drive, Brampton

Hours of work: 35 hours a week

 

 

Reporting to the Program Manager, you'll provide essential technical and administrative support to the Roads – Infrastructure Programming team. You'll assist Project Managers and Specialists on Complete Corridor Studies and Environmental Assessments. Complete Corridor Studies combines planned road and infrastructure improvements within a 5-year window to minimize environmental and social impacts, consider climate change, support transit infrastructure, and achieve economies of scale.

 

What you will do in this role:  

  • Assist Project Managers with Environmental Assessment and Complete Corridor Studies.
  • Support Project Managers in preparing logistics for Public Information Centres (PICs) and other public meetings.
  • Prepare project correspondence, memos, and notices.
  • Obtain necessary permits and approvals from internal sections and external agencies.
  • Facilitate data gathering of design and record drawings and collaborate with various stakeholders and departments.
  • Retrieve design drawings and detailed information from ArcGIS.
  • Organize meeting agendas, chair meetings, and draft meeting minutes.
  • Research on legislation and updates of the latest Municipal Class Environmental Assessment (MCEA) Act.
  • Support urgent and priority temporary projects with various tasks.
  • Assist with document filing onto SharePoint.
  • Collaborate with Communications to update current project websites.
  • Liaise and coordinate comments with contractors, consultants, municipalities, approval agencies, and internal staff.

What the role requires: 

  • Currently enrolled in civil engineering or urban planning co-op program.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Strong in writing technical reports, correspondences, and memos.
  • Strong problem solving and organizational skills.
  • Proficient in MS Word, Excel, Adobe Acrobat, Outlook and AutoCAD platform (preferably MicroStation)

In this role, you’ll benefit from the flexibility of a hybrid work arrangement that prioritizes meaningful in-person connection. A minimum of two days per week on-site is expected, with additional in-person presence as operational needs evolve.
