Health Promoter

Health Services, Chronic Disease & Injury Prevention   

Status:

  • (2) Contract Full Time (Duration: 13 Months) – Active Living
  • (1) Contract Full Time (Duration: 13 Months) – Mental Health Promotion

Salary Range: $78,336 - $97,920 per annum + comprehensive benefits

Location: 7120 Hurontario Street, Mississauga

Hours of work: 35 hours per week. Monday to Friday. *May require evening, weekend and statutory holidays availability based on operational need*

Mental Health Promotion Team
Our Mental Health team drives efforts to promote mental well-being and resilience across Peel. We develop innovative programs and policies to support mental health for residents of all ages, working collaboratively with community partners to ensure equity, inclusion, and culturally responsive programs and services.

 

Active Living Team
The Active Living team leads strategic public health initiatives aimed at increasing physical activity, promoting sleep, and reducing sedentary behavior to improve population health outcomes. Through evidence-informed planning and implementation, the team works to create supportive environments—both physical and social—that enable healthy behaviors across diverse communities. The team’s approach integrates principles of equity and inclusion, ensuring that programs and services are responsive to the cultural and contextual needs of Peel residents.


Your Role & Impact:

  • Lead the planning, execution, and evaluation of health programs that enhance and promote positive mental health and active living, sleep and reduce sedentary behaviour.
  • Conduct community needs and situational assessments to identify priorities and inform strategies
  • Use evidence-informed decision-making, research methods, and critical appraisal to guide program and policy development
  • Develop tailored, clear, engaging written and visual communications such as social media content, reports, web pages, and presentations
  • Collaborate with internal teams, community partners, and government organizations to advance health initiatives
  • Embed principles of equity, diversity, and inclusion in all health promotion activities
  • Apply health promotion theory, population health, social determinants of health, epidemiology, and relevant legislation
  • Mobilize and empower community-led efforts to improve mental health and active living.
  • Develop and evaluate program planning and knowledge translation materials to support health promotion goals.

What You Bring to the Team:

  • Education & Experience: University degree in a health-related field, with at least 1 year of relevant experience in health promotion, program planning, or evaluation.
  • Public Health Knowledge: Strong grasp of health promotion frameworks, social determinants of health, epidemiology, and Ontario Public Health Standards.
  • Research & Analysis Skills: Experience conducting situational assessments, scoping reviews, and evidence-informed decision-making.
  • Tech Savvy: Proficient in Microsoft 365 (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Power Apps, SharePoint), with knowledge of social media and communication tools.
  • Communication & Collaboration: Skilled at writing, facilitating, and presenting to diverse audiences, with a track record of building successful partnerships.
  • Equity Focus: Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion in your work and interactions.

Work Mode:

In this role, you’ll benefit from a hybrid work arrangement that fosters meaningful in-person connections. A minimum of two days per week on-site is expected, with additional in-person presence as operational needs evolve. This arrangement allows for a blend of in-person and remote work to balance organizational priorities and employee flexibility. Please note that this position may require travel throughout the Region of Peel (Mississauga, Brampton, and Caledon) to various community sites based on operational need. 

Note: Your off-site work location must be within the province of Ontario to ensure compliance with regulations and policies.
