Development Engineering Technical Analyst

Public Works – Water & Wastewater

Status: Regular Full-time 
Salary Range:
$78,336 - $97,920 per annum plus comprehensive benefits

Location: 10 Peel Centre Drive, Brampton

Hours of work: 35 hours/week


Who we are:

Peel Region’s water and wastewater engineering services are dedicated to ensuring the efficient and sustainable management of water resources for our residents. These services encompass the planning, design, construction, and maintenance of water supply and wastewater treatment infrastructure. Key initiatives include the development of advanced treatment facilities, implementation of innovative water conservation programs, and rigorous monitoring to ensure compliance with environmental regulations.

 

What you will do in this role: 

In this pivotal role, you will manage diverse contracts and projects that drive growth and development across the region. Your expertise will be essential in ensuring our projects meet the highest standards of quality and efficiency, contributing to the sustainable expansion of our community.

  • Coordinate specific project activities for the Manager and Project Managers.
  • Evaluate and process development proposals including subdivisions, servicing reports, geotechnical reports, and detailed design engineering submissions.
  • Assist in review of designs and tenders related to the Regional Capital Projects. Undertake process adjustments to ensure a high level of quality control is maintained at development construction sites, in accordance with regulatory requirements and the expectations of regional taxpayers.
  • Provide comments on Draft Plans of Subdivision, District Plans, and servicing plans/reports.
  • Provide input and support related to the Region’s Development Procedures and Material Specifications and Standards.
  • Meet with external vendors, consultants, developers, external government agencies and contractors to ensure quality control and assurance on development projects or operational matters.
  • Process Subdivision/Servicing Agreements and liaises with Local Municipalities and developers and consultants.
  • Provide information on existing and proposed sewer, water and road systems to other departments, external clients and agencies.
  • Manage customer inquiries and customer relations.
  • Co-ordinate work with internal and external agencies.
  • Ensure quality and schedule compliance for development related DC capital projects. Prepare and produce reports to management as required.
  • Administer construction and process payment for regional infrastructure projects.
  • Provide technical assistance for the design of facilities with consultants and regional staff.
  • Liaise with region operations to discuss development projects and operational impacts. Plan and coordinate service interruptions. Develop and implement contingency plans as required.
  • Provide ongoing technical support to regional staff in responding to development related issues or failures.
  • Investigate complaints and ensure that the safety and best interest of the general public is considered at all times during construction projects. Maintain good relations with various contractors, developers, external agencies, and the general public.
  • Where applicable and assigned, ensures that all Ministry of Labour Guidelines as set out in the Ontario Health and Safety Act are adhered to on development projects.

What the role requires:

  • Successful completion of Engineering Degree - Certified Engineering Technologist or Engineering Technician designation with at least 3 years related experience. An equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered
  • Previous experience in project design and construction management is an asset
  • Strong knowledge and experience in land development servicing requirements
  • Knowledge of GIS and the ability to access “as-constructed” information is an asset
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and daily use of reliable vehicle
  • Working at heights training

Work Mode & Job Location: In this role, you'll enjoy the flexibility of a hybrid work arrangement. This means you'll have the ability to work off-site and on-site as needed, depending on operational needs at the 10 Peel Centre Drive, Brampton worksite. The frequency of on-site work may vary from week to week, depending on operational demands, which can evolve over time.  It's important to note that your off-site work location must be within the province of Ontario. This ensures that we're compliant with all regulations and policies.
