Advisor, Strategic Partnerships

Human Services- Social Development, Planning and Partnerships

Status: Regular Full-time

Salary Range: $103,175 to $128,969 per annum; Hiring Range $103, 175 to $116,072 per annum plus comprehensive benefits and vacation accrual

Work Mode: Hybrid; 2 On site days per week which can increase based on operational needs 

Location: 10 Peel Centre Drive, Brampton ON

Hours of work: 35 hours per week, core business hours are 8:30am-4:30pm, Monday to Friday. Some flexibility may be required depending on operational needs.

Who we are:

 

The Social Development, Planning and Partnerships division works collaboratively with our community partners and multiple divisions within the Human Services department to enhance effective service delivery, identify gaps in services and efficiencies, and plan, influence and create solutions that positively impact the residents of Peel. 

 

Reporting to the Manager, Poverty Reduction & Community Engagement and working closely with the Director, Social Development, Planning and Partnerships, this position will help build collaborative relationships with internal and external stakeholders to advance the priorities of Peel Region’s Human Services department.

 

What you will do in this role:

 

Key to this role is the ability to build and maintain effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders to achieve the outcomes of Human Services department as well as key divisional priorities.

 

This position has three core areas of responsibility: External Relations, Funding & Sponsorships, Research and Measurement

 

External Relations:

  • Develop and implement departmental advocacy plans on behalf of the Human Services Leadership team.
  • Research and synthesize policy and advocacy issues.
  • Engaging sector-based tables that could be leveraged to shape policy changes.
  • Represent the Region or Human Services department, as required, on committees and related forums.

Funding & Sponsorships:

  • Identify and coordinate applications for funding sources for Human Services capital and programs.
  • Support development of public-private partnerships and cultivate stronger relationships with both the relevant private and charitable sector players.
  • Develop and execute a comprehensive fund development plan and related strategies.
  • Explore the potential for sponsorship and naming rights opportunities.

Research and Measurement:

  • Support current and future social services research opportunities (e.g. Youth in Poverty, Basic Income pilot, Food Insecurity project).
  • Monitor social services research and provide guidance on how this information can support and validate our human and social services priorities and/or advocacy positions.
  • Help measure the impact of our poverty reduction and community engagement strategies and activities.
  • Provide regular reporting to Director, SDPP, and Manager, Poverty Reduction and Community Engagement the Human Services Leadership Team and other stakeholders, as appropriate, to track and evaluate progress on Human Services advocacy priorities.
  • Create reports, letters, briefs, presentations.

What the role requires:

  • Relevant degree in public administration, human services or a related field, combined with a minimum of 5 years relevant experience in advocacy, government relations, funds development, research and/or program evaluation; equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.
  • A relevant Masters’ degree would be considered an asset.
  • Minimum 4 years of experience in public administration and political environments.
  • Deep understanding of the challenges facing human/social services sector in Peel.
  • Track record of developing and executing effective advocacy campaigns.
  • Experience in implementing successful public-private partnerships within the social services sector.
  • Working knowledge of legislation that directs and supports the delivery of Human Services programs including Housing, Early Years and Child Care, Ontario Works, etc.

Skills/Abilities: 

  • Political acuity to be able to navigate and lead effectively in a political environment.
  • Exceptional communication skills, both oral and written, proven presentation skills including the ability to present to various audiences both internal and external to Peel.
  • Tact and diplomacy skills to liaise with various stakeholders at senior levels; proactive, innovate and attentive to details to achieve high quality of results.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal direction.
  • Passionate about influencing advocacy issues impacting the Region of Peel’s ability to help its citizens enhance their quality of life.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion through continuous development, modeling inclusive behaviors, and proactively managing bias

Work Mode:

In this role, you’ll benefit from the flexibility of a hybrid work arrangement that prioritizes meaningful in-person connection. A minimum of two days per week on-site is expected, with additional in-person presence as operational needs evolve. This arrangement allows for a blend of in person and hybrid work that adapts to support both organizational priorities and employee flexibility and is subject to change over time.

 

It's important to note that your off-site work location must be within the province of Ontario. This ensures that we're compliant with all regulations and policies.
