Lead with Purpose. Inspire Innovation. Strengthen Community Health.

Serving as Peel’s Medical Officer of Health (MOH) is more than a role—it’s a chance to shape the future of public health. You’ll be part of a leadership team known for advancing innovative, equity-focused solutions that improve lives and influence provincial and national public health practice.

At Peel Region, we believe in creating a community where everyone thrives. Guided by our values of Care, Courage, Service, and Integrity, we are building a healthier, more inclusive future for 1.5 million residents—one of Canada’s fastest-growing and most diverse populations.

Serving as Peel’s Medical Officer of Health (MOH) is more than a role—it’s a career-defining opportunity to improve lives, strengthen communities, and advance public health practice across Ontario. You will be part of a leadership team known for advancing innovative, equity-focused solutions that improve outcomes locally and influence public health practice provincially and nationally.

Peel Public Health: A Proven Leader in Innovation

Peel Public Health has a strong track record of pioneering ideas that meet community needs. Examples include:

  • Dental care for seniors – piloted in Peel, now a province-wide program.
  • Climate change health assessments – Peel was the first public health unit in Canada to complete one.
  • COVID-19 vaccination leadership – from “hot spot” to “beacon of light,” thanks to trusted community engagement and partnerships.
  • Digital and AI capacity – leading the sector in applying technology to better serve residents.

With a population that is young (average age 39), diverse (69% identify with a racialized group), and rapidly aging (seniors up 20% in the past five years), Peel offers a uniquely dynamic environment where innovative public health solutions can shape outcomes for generations.

The Opportunity

As Peel’s MOH, you will:

  • Provide visionary and collaborative leadership to a team of over 700 public health professionals.
  • Champion the Peel Public Health Strategic Plan, advancing health equity, prevention, and upstream solutions to complex challenges.
  • Guide and inspire interdisciplinary teams working in areas such as climate change adaptation, opioid risk mitigation, place-based immunization, and digital health innovation.
  • Serve as a credible and trusted spokesperson, engaging with Council, community leaders, and the public.
  • Lead clinical activities related to communicable disease prevention, control, and health promotion.
  • Partner closely with the Commissioner of Health Services and Regional Council, ensuring alignment, accountability, and measurable impact.
  • Serve as an integral member of the Health Leadership Team (HLT)—the steering committee for the Health Department (Public Health, Paramedics, Seniors Services, and Health Strategic Planning & Partnerships). Together, the HLT champions collaboration across divisions, sets priorities, and integrates strategies where it makes sense to improve outcomes for residents.
  • Build and sustain cross-sector partnerships with governments, health system leaders, and community organizations.
  • Model leadership rooted in listening, inclusion, collaboration, and wellbeing.
