Health Services - Chronic Disease & Injury Prevention

Status: Contract Full Time (8-Month Duration)

Salary Range: $79,977.60 - $99,972

Hiring Range: $79,977.60 - $89,974.80

Location: 7120 Hurontario St, Mississauga, ON

Hours of work: 35 hours per week

 

The Healthy Eating Team requires an innovative, self-directed Registered Dietitian with knowledge and experience in the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of the priority areas that influence healthy eating in the adult and youth population. The program also addresses supportive environments and influences of mental health and physical activity on healthy eating behaviours. The team uses population health approaches and health equity considerations when working with both internal and external stakeholders to promote healthy food environments and influence behaviours.

What you will do in this role:  

 

  • Work in a self-directed manner within a collaborative team environment and be involved in data collection and various assessments to direct future program development for healthier food environments
  • Practice effective public health practice by reviewing and utilizing evidence-informed decision making as well as apply knowledge regarding concepts of population health, health equity, diversity, determinants of health and effective health promotion strategies to guide practice
  • Plans, supports, implements and evaluates health promotion programs, policies and strategies
  • Stay abreast on current credible research on healthy eating trends and the food environment
  • Serves as a subject matter expert on topics related to public health sciences, specifically food and nutrition issues, trends and practices
  • Conducts community needs assessments and situational assessments
  • Develops and maintains cooperative and collaborative relationships with internal and external partners
  • Interprets and analyzes nutrition information and evidence in order to provide recommendations to supervisor or middle management for policy and/or program development
  • Prepares detailed program planning and evaluation documentation, reports, briefing notes, and statistical analyses
  • Acts as a project lead, consultant or committee chair for a diverse range of projects
  • Develops new or revises existing nutrition-related communication tools to align with evidence-informed programming, and other knowledge translation work
  • Ensures that issues of equity, diversity, ethnicity, language and culture are reflected in health promotion planning and programs 

What the role requires:

 

  • Bachelor of Science Degree specializing in food and nutrition
  • Completion of an accredited dietetic internship or equivalent
  • Current general registration in good standing with the College of Dietitians of Ontario
  • Minimum of two years’ experience in community or public health nutrition
  • Combination of education and experience may be considered
  • In-depth knowledge of current food and nutrition issues and trends
  • Background and understanding of research methods, policy development, analysis and critical appraisal including awareness of evidence-informed decision making
  • Knowledge of public health sciences and assessment including population health, social determinants of health, epidemiology and applicable legislation 

Skills/Abilities

 

  • Well developed and proven written and verbal communication skills
  • Knowledge and demonstrated expertise in using health promotion strategies and program planning and evaluation
  • Strong analytical skills to interpret and apply data
  • Demonstrated facilitation, partnership/collaboration, project management, planning, problem-solving and organizational skills
  • Competence in Windows and Microsoft Word, SharePoint, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook
  • Demonstrate a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion through continuous development, modeling inclusive behaviors, and proactively managing bias

Work Mode & Job Location: In this role, you’ll benefit from the flexibility of a hybrid work arrangement that prioritizes meaningful in-person connection. A minimum of two days per week on-site is expected, with additional in-person presence as operational needs evolve. This arrangement allows for a blend of in person and hybrid work that adapts to support both organizational priorities and employee flexibility and is subject to change over time.
