Status: (1) Contract Full Time – Up to 13 months

Salary Range: $103,175 - $128,969 per annum plus comprehensive benefits

Hiring Range: $103,175 - $116,072 per annum plus comprehensive benefits

As a Real Property Acquisition Agent with a strong real estate and appraisal background, you will lead complex real estate transactions, negotiations, and planning efforts that directly support the delivery of programs across the Region. You'll be at the forefront of acquisition, surplus and disposal, valuation, and managing the real estate assets needed to build a stronger, healthier, and more connected community.

 

What You'll Do:

You’ll provide end-to-end real estate services—from acquisition to disposal—for a broad range of property types. You will:

 

  • Collaborate with internal departments to assess and align real estate needs with strategic priorities.
  • Conduct site searches, feasibility assessments, and financial analyses, including cost/benefit analysis, lease vs. buy.
  • Develop business cases and reports for Council approval, supported by cost/benefit and market analyses.
  • Prepare internal appraisal reports and review external appraisal reports for specific purposes:  acquisition, surplus and disposal, property tax assessment. Lead negotiations for the acquisition, disposal of surplus properties, and leasing, of properties for a variety of user departments various property types (e.g., office, commercial, industrial, land, retail and vacant land).
  • Engage and oversee external consultants (appraisers, planners, brokers, environmental specialists, etc.) as needed.
  • Coordinate with internal and external stakeholders to identify optimal solutions for property needs.
  • Draft, review, and finalize all agreements and other documents in partnership with Legal Services to complete real estate transactions.
  • Ensure all projects comply with applicable legislation, municipal policies, and procedural standards.
  • Bring professionalism and political acumen to all real estate dealings on behalf of the Region.

 

What You Bring:

  • A strong background in real estate appraisal, acquisition, surplus and disposal, land titles, leasing, with a proven ability to manage diverse and complex projects.
  • Experience working with various property types and a solid understanding of municipal real estate processes and procedures.
  • Exceptional negotiation, communication, and analytical skills.
  • The ability to manage multiple priorities, build consensus, and move projects forward under tight timelines.
  • A strategic, solutions-focused mindset with a strong commitment to public service.

 

What the role requires: 

  • Designated member of the, Appraisal Institute of Canada and/or International Right of Way Association or progress/qualifications leading to such designations being attained within 1 year. Designation with the, Real Estate Institute of Canada would be an asset.
  • Minimum of 8 years of previous real estate experience including acquisitions, surplus and disposal, and complex facility leasing. Or a combination of education and experience may be considered. Previous experience in municipal real estate a strong asset.
  • Post secondary education in a related field (Urban Planning, Real Estate, Geography).
  • Sound knowledge of all applicable legislation related to municipal real estate including Municipal Act, Planning Act, Land Titles Act, Commercial Tenancies Act, Real Estate and Business Brokers Act, Expropriations Act, Environmental Assessment Act and Regional Municipality of Peel Act.
  • Sound knowledge of Land Title Office procedures, legal surveys and other plans, building and engineering drawings.
  • Sound knowledge of general legal matters pertaining to real property rights and transfer of real property.
  • Must have valid “G” class driver’s license and have access to your own vehicle.

  • Highly self-motivated and dependable, with a demonstrated ability to work independently and manage responsibilities with minimal oversight.
  • Trusted to handle sensitive and confidential matters with sound judgment, discretion, and professionalism.

In this role, you’ll benefit from the flexibility of a hybrid work arrangement that prioritizes meaningful in-person connection. A minimum of two days per week on-site is expected, with additional in-person presence as operational needs evolve.
