Senior Risk Analyst

Corporate Services – Corporate Finance

 

Status: (1) Regular Full-Time position

Salary Range: $92,151 -$115,189 per annum plus comprehensive benefits

Hiring Range: $92,151 - $103,670 per annum plus comprehensive benefits

Location: 10 Peel Centre Drive, Brampton; travel to various Peel Region facilities as required

 

Liaising with the Manager, Loss Management & Insurance Services, the Senior Risk Analyst is responsible for utilizing risk management methodology to maintain and implement industry best practices of risk treatment and transfer strategies to optimally manage insurable risk exposures for the Region of Peel, Peel Regional Police and Peel Housing Corporation. Responsible for leading the coordination of the risk identification, assessment, treatment and transfer of the assets and operations administered by the Loss Management & Insurance Services section, this position’s principal focus is insurance procurement, renewal and mid-term changes, leading and overseeing the section’s contractual insurance requirements and tracking framework, and informing, enhancing and influencing internal client groups’ risk management and insurance knowledge and practices.

 

Responsibilities:  

 

Insurance / Risk Financing Program

  • Insurance Program Management: Liaise with internal and external stakeholders to maintain updated schedules of assets and operations to effectively procure for and maintain appropriate insurance coverage for the Region including Peel Police, Peel Housing Corporation and other related entities. Oversee the issuance of certificates of insurance and the processing of mid-term endorsements.
  • Operational Risk Assessment: Analyze departmental reports to identify risk exposures and maintain accurate insurance data for underwriting and loss control purposes.
  • Site Inspections & Risk Treatment: Conduct property and liability inspections across regional facilities. Recommend, track, and ensure implementation of risk mitigation guidance.
  • Risk Identification & Analysis: Utilize comprehensive risk analysis methodologies to evaluate actual and potential loss exposures across corporate operations.
  • Asset Valuation: Supervise property risk inspections and appraisals as required to maintain accurate information for underwriting purposes.

 

Non-Insurance Risk Financing Transfer Framework

  • Contract & Agreement Reviews and Guidance: Provide expert guidance to internal clients and partners and the section’s colleagues in the administration of the section’s non-insurance risk transfer framework in analyzing construction, procurement, real estate and other such contracts or agreements to ensure appropriate insurance coverage and risk transfer measures are included to protect the Region, Peel Police and Peel Housing Corporation’s risk and financial interest.
  • Insurance Compliance: Oversee the tracking, acquisition and verification of Certificates of Insurance, ensuring compliance and adequate coverage across third-party engagements.

 

Risk Management Program

  • Advisory & Support: Serve as a key point of contact for internal stakeholders seeking risk treatment and financing guidance.
  • Budget & Financial Planning: Support the section as needed to prepare data and recommendations for insurance premium allocations, self-insured retentions, and risk management budgeting.
  • Policy Development: Contribute to and support the development and review of the section’s risk management policies and procedures to reflect industry best practices and organizational needs.
  • Training & Education: Contribute to and support the design and delivery of risk management awareness and training for internal clients.
  • Market Intelligence: Maintain current knowledge of industry trends, insurer capabilities, and regulatory changes through active engagement with insurance markets.
  • Team & Project Leadership: Participate in cross-functional teams and committees; supervise and train temporary staff as required.
  • Data Management, Analysis & Reporting: Leverage risk management systems such as claims data systems (such as Assure Claims) and reporting tools (such as MS Power BI) to manage data integrity, monitor trends, generate reports, and support informed decision-making.
  • Special Projects: Lead or support risk management initiatives and organizational projects as assigned.
  • Section Support: Provide backup and support for the section’s Risk Analyst and Coordinator as required.

 

Qualifications:

  • Specialized college diploma, university degree, or insurance/risk management knowledge with Chartered Insurance Professional designation (CIP) or equivalent.
  • Minimum of 7 years insurance and risk management experience. An equivalent combination of education and/or experience may be considered.
  • Demonstrated understanding of insurance policies and procedures, insurance law, relevant legislation, municipal operations, and demonstrated knowledge of risk transfer and reduction measures.
  • Valid Ontario drivers’ license and reliable vehicle for occasional use on corporate business
  • Successful candidates hired to work for this position will be required to provide the Criminal Records Check prior to the start date.

  • Ability to work both as an effective, respectful team player and also independently, initiative/self starter, accountability, time management skills, flexibility/adaptability and the ability to work collaboratively in a busy fast paced environment with changing priorities based on service delivery needs.
  • Demonstrated excellence in customer service.
  • Strong computer, analytical and problem solving skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and discretion when dealing with sensitive information.

Work Mode & Job Location: In this role, you’ll benefit from the flexibility of a hybrid work arrangement that prioritizes meaningful in-person connection. A minimum of two days per week on-site is expected along with occasional travel to attend site inspections or meetings at Regional facilities or as operational needs evolve.
