Health Services – Health Protection

Status: Regular Full-Time

Salary Range: $92,151 - $115,1859 per annum, plus comprehensive benefits

Hiring Range: $92,151 - $103,670

Location: 7120 Hurontario Street, Mississauga, ON

Hours of work: 35 hours per week

 

Who We Are:

 

Reporting to the Manager, Health Protection, you will provide research and analysis, project leadership, policy and strategic assistance, program planning and evaluation support to the Health Protection Division and the Medical Officer of Health on environmental health issues.

 

Responsibilities include:

  • Research health issues that encompass the full range of environmental health practice; this includes air quality and climate change, food premise and personal service settings inspections, tobacco enforcement, enteric case and outbreak management and the investigation and management of environmental health hazards.
  • Assess the environmental health implications associated with local land use development projects such as those related to transportation infrastructure and waste management projects.
  • Evaluation and critical appraisal of relevant studies to inform evidence-based practice in environmental health.
  • Conduct and review health risk assessments and recommend risk management strategies involving a wide range of stakeholders from the community, government, and non-governmental agencies.
  • Develop policy positions on various environmental issues and monitoring and evaluating the local implications of provincial and federal health policy decisions.
  • Liaise with colleagues from other divisions within Public Health, members of the community, representatives of industry and environmental groups, government officials and staff from area municipal departments.

 What the Role Requires:

  • Master’s degree, preferred, in public health, toxicology, planning or other relevant public health discipline. Combination of education and experience may be considered. 
  • A minimum three years of related experience
  • Demonstrated ability to synthesize, evaluate and integrate health, and environment information from multiple sources and provide recommendations related to preventing/mitigating health impacts, policy formulation and strategic planning/prioritization
  • Broad knowledge of environmental public health issues, environmental risk assessment and management, and environmental and health impact assessments
  • Strong knowledge in qualitative and quantitative research methods and analytical skills including critical appraisal and appropriate use of evidence

 Skills/Abilities:
 

  • Polished communication and report-writing skills
  • Strong critical synthesis and analysis of technical and research information
  • Well versed organization, time management, and collaboration skills, with focus on stakeholder management
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to work with a high degree of discretion and diplomacy
  • Strong presentation skills and computer proficiency across Microsoft Office platform

Work Mode & Job Location: Hybrid at 7120 Hurontario Street, Mississauga, ON

 

In this role, you’ll benefit from the flexibility of a hybrid work arrangement that prioritizes meaningful in-person connection. A minimum of two days per week on-site is expected, with additional in-person presence as operational needs evolve. This arrangement allows for a blend of in person and hybrid work that adapts to support both organizational priorities and employee flexibility and is subject to change over time.

 

It's important to note that your off-site work location must be within the province of Ontario. This ensures that we're compliant with all regulations and policies.
