Special Events Assistant

Public Works – Operations Support

Status: 1 Temporary Full-Time position; duration: 6 months

Salary Range: $61,368 to $76,710 per annum

Hiring Range: $61,368 to $69,039 per annum

Work Mode: Hybrid* see below for more details

Location: 2 Copper Road, Brampton

Hours of Work: 35 hours per week

 

The Role:

Reporting to the Supervisor, Public Education & Outreach, you will provide support for organizing Public Education & Outreach’s participation in outreach events (fall fairs, home shows, etc.) and provide support on a variety of projects.

 

In this role you will:

  • Educate residents on Peel’s Public Works programs and initiatives.
  • Use knowledge gained in training to speak to residents at a general level during public events about proper waste disposal, water quality, water treatment and other programs as identified by management.
  • Use promotional pamphlets, videos, props, and other tools provided to enhance message delivery.
  • Set up and take down booths and or displays for scheduled events.
  • Load and unload the Peel van with tables, chairs, displays, literature, and any other materials needed for an event.
  • Organize and keep inventory of materials needed for events.
  • Assist with the compiling of data from events which will be used to assess the performance and effectiveness of education programs.
  • Provide support for the Peel Children's Water Festival.
  • Complete other office work and duties as required.

 

What the role requires:

  • Completed post-secondary education with related work experience.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills are essential.
  • Proven customer service and public relations skills.
  • Demonstrated organizational skills and ability to problem solve.
  • Basic understanding of municipal services is an asset (water, wastewater, transportation and waste management services)
  • Strong computer skills, utilizing MS Office (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint)
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Valid G Class driver’s license in good standing.
  • A satisfactory Level 1 Criminal Record Check obtained directly from a police station (third-party background checks will not be accepted)

Work Mode & Job Location: In this role, you’ll benefit from the flexibility of a hybrid work arrangement that prioritizes meaningful in-person connection. A minimum of two days per week on-site is expected, with additional in-person presence as operational needs evolve. This arrangement allows for a blend of in person and hybrid work that adapts to support both organizational priorities and employee flexibility and is subject to change over time. 

It's important to note that your off-site work location must be within the province of Ontario. This ensures that we're compliant with all regulations and policies.

Waste Collection in Mississauga, Brampton and Caledon would also transfer to the cities of Mississauga, Brampton and the Town of Caledon on October 1, 2027. Peel Region will continue to manage Community Recycling Centres (CRC) along with transfer, processing, and disposal services.
