Financial Support Representative

Human Services – Income and Social Supports

Status: Contract Full Time - up to 24 months 

Salary Range: $61,104 – $71,810 per annum 

Hourly Range: $33.57 – $39.46 per hour

 

Work Mode: Onsite

Location: 10 Peel Centre Drive, Brampton, Ontario

Hours of Work: 35 hours per week

Who we are: Income and Social Supports is the single point of access for a range of Human Services programs provided by Peel Region, and community-based agencies to help individuals or families cope with life challenges or events. Learn more about the supports we provide.

 

Our mandate is to help lift Peel residents out of poverty by supporting them to take steps towards employment, greater independence, and an improved quality of life.
 
The Role: In this role you will control the distribution of finances and receipt of recoveries in accordance with governing Ontario Works legislation and policies through the use of computers and mainframe systems, and to maintain accurate records of all transactions.

 

What you will do in this role:

  • Prepares manual cheques and drug cards for Ontario Works (OW) clients and general public as per current office practices. Ensures all manual cheques are properly recorded on provincial computer system and all internal OW Tracking
    databases
  • Processes computerised cheques as per current office practices
  • Provides cheque window services which include the release of cheques, drug cards, and payment related affidavits
  • Receives, processes and maintains accurate records of all payments issued through SDMT and the Royal Bank
    electronic system
  • Responsible for various administrative participant requests and for cheque window duties
  • Maintains monthly statistical records as required
  • Processes, prepares traces, stop payments, recalls and returned items as requested or received, and communicates outcomes or resolutions with caseworker as per current office practices
  • Reconciles, corrects or reports all payment discrepancies to supervisor, Finance Coordinator or Local Business Expert
    (LBE)
  • Processes invoices for program related goods & services for the OW division, clients and agencies through SDMT or Accounts Payable (AP)
  • Reconciles and process payments to AP for external agencies (i.e. Emergency Hostels, Language Interpreters)
  • Processes referrals to Employment Placement (EP) Agencies via SDMT. Monitors clients’ participation within the EP programs to ensure appropriate reconciliation and process payments
  • Processes referrals to the trusteeship program, including monitoring acceptance, updating SDMT and maintaining payment disbursements. Make and record payments as directed by Peel Career Assessment Services on the OW clients behalf
  • Reconciles purchase card receipts in PeopleSoft for all OW purchase card holders
  • Retains copies of all output produced according to the Corporate and Ministry of Community and Social Services retention
    schedule
  • Liaises with OW Caseworkers, Supervisors, LBE, Financial Analyst, Accounts Payable, Regional Finance units, Royal Bank contact, external agencies and vendors to ensure accurate payments and that OW financial integrity is maintained.
  • Other duties as required

 

What the role requires:

  • Completion of a secondary school program or equivalent with one year related post secondary education
  • One year experience in an accounts receivable or payable position is preferred
  • A satisfactory Criminal Record Check obtained directly from a police station (third-party background checks will not be accepted)

Preference will be given to qualified candidates who are currently in the bargaining unit. This position is a bargaining unit position represented by CUPE Local 966. Continuous employment is not guaranteed and may be subject to layoffs as outlined in the Collective Agreement Article 15.
