Salary Range: $62,902 - $70,765 per annum + comprehensive benefits

Work mode: Hybrid (4 days in office)

Location:  PAMA, 9 Wellington Street East, Brampton and 10 Peel Center Drive, Brampton, ON.

Hours of work: 35 hours per week

Who we are:  

The Region of Peel Archives is the official archival repository serving the Region and its three member municipalities, Mississauga, Brampton, and Caledon. We collect, preserve, and provide access to a wide range of government and private records that together constitute the rich documentary heritage of Peel. Our holdings occupy close to 2 km of linear shelf space and includes nearly 2 million photographs, as well as moving images, maps, plans, land records, and many other unique and revealing items that work together to tell the story of Peel.

What you will do in this role:

• Digitizes selected records following institutional digitization and quality control procedures in support of collections and outreach/reference programs. Liaises with archival staff as well as internal and external clients directly to establish image output specifications as required, as well as any watermark or applied metadata considerations
• Oversees the safe capture and/or migration of digital content stored on such things as hard drives, USB sticks, floppy disks, data CDs, magnetic tapes, etc.
• Performs digital file management, including renaming, organizing, and uploading digital objects into Regional network drives, back-up storage drives, and/or to a Trusted Digital Repository.
• Responds to reproduction requests received by Archives staff for external and internal clients, including regular and rush orders
• Ensures reproduction service meets institutional standards; including image clarity, resolution, accuracy, and timely delivery for reprographic orders. May need to contact client(s) directly to establish output specifications
• Provides reprographic support to PAMA curatorial and other staff, including scanning and output formatting digital images required for exhibition graphics, online exhibitions, publications, and other projects
• Creates and updates records in collections management system databases in compliance with Rules for Archival Description (RAD) and RPA standards
• Processes and uploads digital content to support the Archival website and social media sites as directed
• Ensures the reprographic equipment is kept in excellent working condition
• Flags items in collection that may require conservation treatment, and may be asked to rehouse records as part of daily work
• Provides customer service including registering researchers and providing a general orientation to Archival resources as directed

What the role requires:

• College diploma or certificate in digital graphic design or related field with at least two years reprographic experience working with historical resources. Combination of education and experience may be considered.
• Demonstrated experience using Adobe Photoshop Creative Suite 5, Adobe Acrobat 7 Professional, Microsoft Access, and advanced settings on scanner software such as Epson Scan
• Sound knowledge of computer graphics software applications and record digitization techniques
• Demonstrated experience with archival practices including application of metadata standards, use of digitization workflows, care and handling of fragile archival records in various formats, and general knowledge of copyright legislation

• Ability to lift record boxes up to 30 pounds on a routine basis. 

 Nice to have:

• Archival experience would be an asset. 
• Experience with archival content management systems would be an asset.

Work Mode & Job Location: In this role, you’ll benefit from the flexibility of a hybrid work arrangement that prioritizes meaningful in-person connection. A mix of on-site and off-site arrangement is expected along with occasional travel to attend site inspections or meetings at Regional facilities or as operational needs evolve. This arrangement allows for a blend of in person and hybrid work that adapts to support both organizational priorities and employee flexibility and is subject to change over time.
