Job Description

Supervisor, Training and Development

Contract Full Time up to 24 months

Human Services- Integrated Business Support 

 

What you will do:

 

With a strong focus on leadership, coaching, and adult education knowledge, this role will supervise, coach, provide guidance and support to the training and development team. 

 

Through innovative approaches and integrating leading industry trends, you will prepare your team, to successfully deliver quality training and development to the frontline staff in Human Services who support our community.

 

Leadership:

  • Regularly required to supervise employees through a variety of activities including hiring, coaching, motivating, developing job objectives, disciplining, managing performance, assigning and delegating work, ensuring quality and service standards are met
  • Supervises the Training and Development Specialists who organize and conduct training and educational programs for employee development, orientation, and on-the-job training using Adult Learning Principles and training strategies consistent with industry standards
  • Assists the Training and Development Specialists with solving specific problems in the training environment and devises individual learning plans in partnership with supervisors for their staff where necessary
  • Promotes a service-oriented culture and focus.  Promotes teamwork and integration within the team, the Business Support and Development unit, the Integrated Business Support division, the Human Services department and with other Region of Peel and external parties participating in cross-functional initiatives
  • Evaluates the impact of the training delivered and uses the results to ensure the training and performance is meeting the needs of the clients

Operational:

  • Responsible to develop and deliver training to management or other staff as appropriate
  • Interprets and evaluates training curriculum to improve existing training programs or to develop new training approaches or processes, in order to adapt to the changes that occur in the work environment.
  • Recommends changes to improve program content, and works with Business Support and Development manager to achieve departmental training goals and support the Corporate Strategic Plan
  • Identifies training and development needs within the Human Services department through consultation with supervisors and managers
  • Remain current with developments in training by reading relevant journals, attending conferences and relevant courses including a knowledge of e-learning techniques

What we require:

 

  • Proven supervision abilities, including the ability to manage in a unionized environment and in an environment of change
  • Knowledge of Adult Education to develop and deliver management training sessions and to ensure training programs are effective
  • Direct experience with coaching staff 
  • Relevant post secondary education combined with a minimum of 5 years experience in a Human Services environment
  • Working knowledge of project management methodologies
  • Proven presentation skills including the ability to present to various audiences both internal and external to Peel 

Location: 7120 Hurontario Street, Mississauga

Hours of Work: Monday to Friday 8:30am-4:30pm
