Job Description

Supervisor, Substance Misuse and Injury Prevention

Contract Duration:  Approximately eighteen (18) months

Health Services - Chronic Disease and Injury Prevention

This may be the role for you ……



  • Responsible for overseeing program planning, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of health promotion strategies encompassing population level interventions related to substance misuse and injury prevention 
  • Prepare, administer and monitor the team specific budget
  • Analyse service levels to assist the  Manager in evaluating program efficiency
  • Provide guidance and ensure adherence to applicable legislations, policies, and standards
  • Participate in various divisional, inter-divisional, and departmental, committees
  • Liaise with community agencies to promote the division’s strategic plan
  • Hire, lead, develop, motivate, empower and evaluate a multidisciplinary team while ensuring efficient utilization of resources
  • Facilitate evidence-informed decision making processes of reporting staff and  ensure reporting staff participate in and contribute in a productive and positive manner
  • Conduct performance appraisals for immediate reports and handle performance issues. This includes staff development and training
  • Manage change and support the organization’s vision
  • Cultivate customer orientation by investing time and training into your team, inspiring them to be innovative while striving to maintain a high degree of customer and client service excellence. 
  • Build collaborative working relationships with the divisional and department management team as well as external stakeholders when appropriate



  • A health related degree from a recognized university 
  • 5 years of progressive relevant experience in a Public Health setting 
  • Demonstrated leadership capabilities
  • Ability to support team needs on a day to day basis
  • Provide effective coaching and mentoring to team members to ensure high performance
  • Demonstrated strong problem solving and ethical decision making skills
  • Broad knowledge of public health issues and environmental determinants of health
  • Thorough knowledge of applicable legislations, policies, and standards is required
  • Working knowledge of Provincial standards
  • Excellent skills in program planning, implementation and evaluation
  • Demonstrated ability to lead a multidisciplinary team, honed project management skills, and an aptitude for multi-sectorial relationship building
  • Sound understanding of research (qualitative and quantitative) skills
  • Excellent communication (written, verbal, and interpersonal), and strong analysis, writing, editing, facilitation and presentation skills 
  • Political awareness, tact and diplomacy are essential
  • Previous public health supervisory experience is preferred       

Location: 7120 Hurontario St.  Mississauga
Hours of work: 8:30am to 4:30pm; Monday through Friday
