    Job Description

    Community Relations Specialist

    Contract Full Time- up to 12 months

    Community Partnerships- Human Services 

    The Role:

    The Region’s 20 year Strategic Plan of “Living, Thriving & Leading” will guide the intended outcomes. You will work with neighbourhoods and community partners to explore outreach methods, share information and promotional material to support initiatives for all human services program areas and updates. You will identify community issues, gaps and trends to efficiently provide support to desired Neighbourhoods.


    In collaboration with internal and external stakeholders you will develop tactics and share information to enhance access to services for Peel residents. Through leading and supporting, you will work to achieve the intended outcome of improving human service education awareness and to achieve client quality of life & a Community for Life. 



    • Implements an ongoing communications strategy to increase awareness of issues related to community development and community capacity by collaborating with relevant stakeholders to develop campaigns and promotional initiatives
    • Ensures the development of information is specific to communities in Peel
    • Develops communication tools related to community relations; Writes community relations business cases and authors council reports
    • Develops community partnership based presentations for use by external community partners as well as internal staff
    • Facilitates focus groups; presents concepts related to promotion strategies to community partners, Steering Committees, relevant sub-committees, and internal Communication Services
    • Shares community relations information during workshops, presentations and self-help groups to parents, stakeholders and community partners in all diverse communities of Peel
    • Develops and maintains processes to ensure information is current and in line with regional policies and related legislation
    • Represents the Region of Peel at various community tables, projects and initiatives to build relationships; support networks; and educate community partners about Regional programs and resources
    • Maintains knowledge of related government programs and legislation relevant to Human Services programs
    • Supports the volunteers working on community relations-type programs by guiding, providing work direction and leadership with outreach 


    • Post-secondary education in Human Services or related field (i.e. Community Development, Social Service Worker) with at least three years of related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience
    • Knowledge of the community relations concepts and strategies; program development, implementation and evaluation
    • An understanding and global awareness of the needs and demographics of the diverse Peel population; an awareness of trends and issues which impact on the community
    • Excellent presentation and facilitation skills
    • Working knowledge of project management methodologies
    • Research, analytical and problem solving skills necessary to gather and analyze data
    • Intermediate computer skills in MS Office 

    Location: 7120 Hurontario Street, Mississauga

    Hours: Monday to Friday 8:30am-4:30pm 35 hours/week
