    Job Description

    Junior Planner

    Public Works - Integrated Planning

    Regular Full-Time

    As a member of the Integrated Planning Division, you will report to the Manager, Research and Analysis, and be responsible for carrying out Regional planning and policy research tasks and supporting programs related to a range of environment and resource planning fields including agriculture, water, natural heritage, climate change and energy planning initiatives. 



    • Monitors legislative and policy initiatives and conducts research tasks related to the Regional Official Plan, local official plans, secondary plans, municipal comprehensive reviews and other assigned local, Greater Toronto Area (GTA) and province-wide planning initiatives
    • Provides coordination supports and undertakes policy research and development assignments related to the Regional Official Plan including discussion papers, policy drafting and consultation
    • Assists with the collection and analysis of urban, rural and environmental data and information related to the Region of Peel, the GTA and the Province
    • Provides support to the Peel Agricultural Advisory Working Group, the Peel Rural Water Quality Program, and the Golden Horseshoe Food and Farming Alliance
    • In collaboration with an inter-departmental team, co-leads, publishes and distributes the Grown in Peel local food and farming guide
    • Provides coordination, research and policy support for mineral aggregate studies
    • Coordinates, provides consultation and engages in community outreach activities
    • Works closely with Area Municipalities, Conservation Authorities, Regional staff, committees and elected officials to carry out responsibilities
    • Provides GIS mapping support to the division and/or coordinates GIS mapping tasks and requests



    • An Honours Degree in planning or related field
    • Specialization in the field of environmental, rural and resources planning such as watershed planning, natural heritage planning, agricultural/food systems planning, aggregates resources, and climate change planning
    • A minimum of one (1) year experience in a planning position related to the core responsibilities
    • The ability to thrive in a multi-disciplinary team environment and the flexibility to be responsible for policy research on a variety of topics beyond your area of specialization
    • Knowledge of the Planning Act, Provincial Policy Statement, Places to Grow Growth Plan and Greenbelt Plan as well as other plans, policies and legislation affecting planning
    • Ability to design and conduct statistical and research analysis including proficiency in GIS analysis and mapping
    • Project management skills and knowledge
    • Ability to make oral presentations on reports and research
    • Excellent written and oral communication, analytical, technical, organizational, problem-solving and computer skills
    • Membership or eligibility for membership in OPPI/CIP is preferred

    Location: 10 Peel Centre Drive, Suite A, Brampton

    Hours of Work: 35 Hours per week- Monday to Friday
