    Job Description

    Financial Analyst

    Finance - Business and Financial Planning

     

    Reporting to the Supervisor, Internal Support, Financial Support Unit, the Financial Analyst will provide advice and support the Corporate Services client group that enables them to effectively manage their business.

     

    Responsibilities:

    • Assessing the programs’ financial performance against targets and providing variance commentary for current and capital operations
    • Assists the Corporate Services client in preparation of the annual Current and Capital Budgets for the Region
    • Working with clients to recommend and develop tri-annual and in-year forecasts for Regional and other government reporting
    • Maximize cost recoveries
    • Processing and ensuring Federal and Provincial cash flow and recoveries accuracy
    • Processing and ensuring internal cost allocation/recovery and modeling accuracy
    • Reviewing financial implications of new program proposals and changes to legislation and policies
    • Working with clients to develop strong business cases
    • Researching, analyzing, and supporting the development of financial implications for reports to Council
    • Performing special financial reporting/analytical projects

    Qualifications:

    • Relevant university degree and professional accounting designation (CPA, CGA, CMA, CA) plus a minimum of 3 years’ experience in a fast-paced financial environment, although an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience may be considered
    • Knowledge of generally accepted accounting practices and principles
    • Understanding of policies and administrative procedures related to government funded programs would be an asset
    • Knowledge of Regional municipal issues, services and processes would be an asset
    • Strong computer skills, specifically MS Office and PeopleSoft Financials and Hyperion budgeting systems
    • Superior analytical and judgment abilities
    • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with an ability to communicate financial information to diverse audiences
    • Demonstrated passion for client service
    • An ability to work in a self-directed manner, including strong planning and organizational skills, and an attitude for initiating and taking the lead in problem-solving
    • Ability to participate effectively within a team environment where a number of reporting submissions are prepared in collaboration with other team members
    • Ability to build and maintain strong partnerships with clients

    Location:  10 Peel Centre Drive, Brampton 

    Hours of work: 8:30am to 4:30pm Monday through Friday
