    Job Description

    Medical Director - Healthy Sexuality Program

    Contract Duration:  Approximately two (2) years

    Health Services –Public Health


    Peel Public Health is seeking an independent contractor to perform the services of Medical Director for Peel Public Health’s Healthy Sexuality clinics, within the Communicable Diseases (CD) Division.  As Medical Director of the Healthy Sexuality clinics, you will support Peel Public Health’s mandate to reduce the burden of communicable diseases. You will work with a multi-disciplinary team that includes administrative staff, public health nurses, and other physicians. You will also work closely with supervisors, the manager of Peel Public Health’s Healthy Sexuality Program, and with the Associate Medical Officer of Health and Director of the Communicable Diseases Division to provide leadership in the program.


     Your role …….


    Leadership and Direction

    • Liaise with community organizations, community practitioners and partners and other public health agencies, to promote public health programs
    • Contribute to the development and planning of the CD Division's Healthy Sexuality programs, along with the responsible Associate Medical Officer of Health, the Director of Communicable Diseases, and the Healthy Sexuality Program Manager.
    • Lead the promotion and utilization of evidence-informed medical practices. 

    Medical Service and Expertise

    • Provide direct clinical services to a diverse population of clients at various Region of Peel - Public Health Clinic locations which currently operate Monday through Friday 08:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Hours and days of the week are subject to change based on program need
    • Provide direct and off-site medical expertise and consultation to Public Health Nurses and physicians
    • Research and provide written reports to the Associate Medical Officer of Health, Director, Communicable Diseases Division and Healthy Sexuality Program Manager related to new or pending clinic products and services, treatments, collaborative initiatives, and other topics as requested. 

    Develop and Maintain Clinic Medical Directives, Policies and Procedures

    • Provide medical oversight on the establishment and revision of clinic policies, and procedures, medical directives and work instructions to ensure they are in keeping with population needs and legislative requirements.   

    Provide Recruitment, Training and Education

    • Together with the responsible Associate Medical Officer of Health, Healthy Sexuality Program Manager and staff, develop and update all training materials related to medical directives.
    • Provide training to Public Health Nurses and ensure implementation and adherence to medical directives.
    • Participate in the Certification and Recertification process of Public Health Nurses working under medical directives.
    • Recruit and train physicians as needed to provide Healthy Sexuality Clinical Services 

    Quality Assurance

    • Provide support to the Healthy Sexuality Program Manager to identify and address issues related to the continuous quality assurance of the Clinics. 

    Scheduling and Coverage Functions

    • Schedule clinic physicians, residents and students, and provide coverage for clinical services. 



    • Qualified medical doctor registered with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario (CPSO) to practice independently in the Province of Ontario, and who holds a current Ontario Health Insurance Plan (OHIP) billing number.
    • Certification in the College of Family Physicians (CCFP)
    • Current member of the Canadian Medical Protective Association (CMPA)
    • 5 years of clinical experience within a family medicine setting would be considered an asset
    • Preference will be given to those candidates with experience in the practice of family medicine, including reproductive health (including IUD insertion) and management of sexually transmitted infections.
    • Experience working in Public Health would also be considered an asset


    Hours: Up to 21 hours per week. Hours of service shall be agreed upon by both parties.
    Hourly Rate: $136.50 per hour

    If vacation is requested, or if time off is requested, it is the expectation that time will be made up at a time mutually agreed upon by both parties.
