    Job Description


    Water/Wastewater Operator III

    Temporary Full-Time, Six (6) Months

    Public Works – Wastewater

    Under general supervision operates sewer flusher, flusher/vacuum and vacuum excavation equipment and performs manual and equipment operating duties in the performance of various Public Works construction, maintenance or operational functions



    • Performs water quality and system tests and takes corrective actions 
    • Performs hand excavation, backfilling, restoration brickwork and pipe laying 
    • Maintains, operates and inspects water distribution and wastewater collection system assets 
    • Assists in watermain tapping, sewer main rodding hydrant repair and CCTV inspection service 
    • Operates sewer flusher, flusher/vacuum and vacuum excavation equipment in the performance of water/wastewater installation and maintenance activities 
    • Ensures all work is performed in compliance with relevant standards, legislation and regulations
    • Investigates complaints, faults or problems and determines causes and remedies 
    • Trains and instructs less experienced personnel in specific operations and maintenance duties
    • May participate in inspections and audits
    • Executes duties in a tactful and courteous manner, maintains a neat appearance and performs duties in a way that conveys a "positive image" of the Region of Peel


    • Minimum grade 12 education or equivalent
    • Minimum three (3) years of job related experience 
    • Minimum acceptable Ministry of the Environment Certification Wastewater Collection Level I and Water Distribution Operator-in-Training Certification with preference for progressive advancement of certification to the subsystem class level 
    • Meter Installers Certificate preferred
    • Ability to operate and maintain a variety of manual and power equipment 
    • Ability to read, write, speak and understand English 
    • Capable of accurately completing work forms and reports 
    • Must have a working knowledge of computers 
    • Must have a working knowledge of applicable regulations as they apply to compliance
    • Must successfully complete regulatory training and mandatory retraining courses 
    • Physically able to perform requirements of the job
    • Possess a Class “DZ” license in good standing with preference for “AZ”

    Preference will be given to qualified applicants who are currently in the bargaining unit


    Location: One (1) Temporary Full-Time, Six (6) months contract at 3515 Wolfdale Rd., Mississauga, ON 
    Hours of Work: 7:00am – 4:00 pm Monday to Friday.

    AWW may be in effect, shift work may be required
