    Job Description

    Principal Planner

    Public Works – Transportation

    Regular Full Time

    Reporting to the Manager, Transportation System Planning you will act as an expert and resource for Council, management and staff for transportation planning related matters that impact the Region of Peel. 



    • Conduct long range transportation planning studies, research, and strategic reviews for Peel Region
    • Initiate and manage transportation planning and sustainable transportation projects
    • Advance Regional transportation plans and policies; and develop effective transportation network in Peel
    • Measure, analyze and report on key performance indicators from the Region’s Long Range Transportation Plan to support strategic decision making.  
    • Serve on internal committees to support the Region’s strategic priorities related to transportation
    • You will be key a liaison for municipal and provincial committees that advance Peel’s transportation agenda such as goods movement, transportation and built-form and transportation demand management. Manage transportation projects to support Region’s Growth Management Program
    • Provide leadership in transportation planning and represent the Region on task forces, working committees and technical advisory teams
    • Provide direction and allocate work to department staff



    • University degree in engineering, urban planning and design or related field
    • Master’s degree or further postsecondary education in transportation planning, economics, land use planning or related field would be considered an asset
    • Minimum of 5 years' progressive experience in transportation planning, engineering or urban design
    • Knowledge in transportation policy and analysis, transportation systems evaluation, long-range transportation network assessments, travel demand forecasting and transportation impact analyses
    • Ability to work in a multidisciplinary team setting using well-developed communications, analytical, problem-solving and computer skills
    • Project Management experience is considered an asset
    • Membership in the Professional Engineer Association or OPPI or CIP would be considered an asset

    Location: 10 Peel Centre Drive, Brampton 

    Hours of Work: 35 hours per week, Monday to Friday
