    Job Description

    Legal Counsel, Municipal Law, Land Development

    Corporate Services, Legal Services

     

    We are seeking an experienced land development/land use planning lawyer to join our Legal Services team.  We are looking for an individual with a background in transactional work, primarily for securing municipal, financial and property requirements in Regional infrastructure projects, as well as providing real estate and environmental law advice.  

     

    Experience with development charges and general municipal law issues is also desirable.  The position requires significant legal drafting and document review in the high growth realm of our large, expanding municipality.

    Success requires:

    • LL.B./J.D. member in good standing of the Law Society of Ontario
    • 3-5 years’ experience as a practicing lawyer or equivalent
    • Possessing excellent communication, drafting, analytical and problem solving skills
    • Demonstrated track record of sound judgment, tact, patience, composure under pressure, ability to work collaboratively with planning and engineering staff
    • Experience at a municipality, land use planning and development law, environmental law and real estate law, serving client groups and liasing with senior management, and drafting Council reports
    • Strong knowledge of legal framework for negotiating large municipal servicing agreements, real estate acquisitions, negotiation and development, leasing and licensing agreements
    • Ability to draft and provide advice on complex water/wastewater and transportation servicing, land and affordable housing development
    • Strategic development of contracts related to real estate acquisitions and development
    • Ability to manage and develop solid working relationships with legal counsel and law clerks
    • Maintaining and developing collaborative partnerships with municipal, provincial and federal bodies

    Location: 10 Peel Centre Drive, Brampton

    Hours of work: 8:30am-4:30pm with flexibility; Monday to Friday
