    Advisor, Asset Management

    Enterprise Asset Management – Finance

    Permanent, Full-Time

    The Role:


    Reporting to the Manager of Corporate Asset Management, the Strategy Advisor is primarily responsible to promote, implement and update the Region of Peel’s Corporate Asset Management Strategy.  The incumbent must apply their specialized and expert knowledge of asset management and Peel’s Corporate Asset Management Strategy in an appropriate manner to accurately assess the state of Peel’s infrastructure and infrastructure requirements to meet service delivery objectives.  The Advisor is also responsible to continually assess the relevance of the various tools, processes, methodologies and reporting practices under Peel’s asset management strategy and implement changes as necessary to reflect the changing dynamics of Peel’s environment, services and business practices. The incumbent must carry out their duties in consultation with numerous stakeholders, employing highly advanced communication, negotiation and facilitation skills.


    To be successful, the incumbent must have strong initiative and communication skills, capable of working independently, adaptable, flexible, tactful and capable of working well with people in challenging situations.  Strong knowledge of municipal infrastructure and finance is necessary. 


    In this role you will be responsible for:

    • Defining/updating asset condition and performance criteria (asset levels of service) necessary to provide effective service delivery
    • Assessing asset risks, facilitating risk assessment exercises and determining levels of risk to service impairment
    • Updating and developing strategies and methodologies related to defining asset levels of service, asset/service risks and asset life cycles
    • Applying expert, specialized knowledge of asset management and Peel’s asset management strategy and utilizing advanced negotiation and facilitation skills to blend Peel’s asset management strategy with the operating requirements and environment of the organization’s assets and services
    • Analyzing and interpreting risk assessments, detailed data and complex reports to develop recommendations or actions that can affect services or Programs’ strategic directions; sometimes based on limited information
    • Engage in extensive problem solving tasks including: utilizing advanced research techniques; extensive consultations with subject matter experts; employing independent and sound judgment and significant independent decision-making
    • Must present to, and liaise with department representatives to clearly articulate specialized and complex technical analysis and advice to senior managers, peers and stakeholders utilizing strong written and oral communication skills
    • Must use advanced communications and tactful negotiations to assess and interpret the varying ideas, opinions and information from stakeholders and experts
    • Defining scope of works and terms of reference for studies and projects
    • Provides timely completion of projects, tasks and delivery of objectives
    • Managing intensive and specialized studies/projects involving external consultants and internal staff
    • Organizing and leading project teams and accountable for the outcomes related to asset management planning and strategies



    • Must possess a professional designation in Engineering and/or Finance combined with a minimum of 5 years of related work experience, preferably in a municipal environment.
    • Excellent knowledge of asset management principles and practices
    • Highly knowledgeable in municipal infrastructure, infrastructure planning and its operations
    • Advanced knowledge of municipal financing
    • Strong analytical and problem solving skills and ability to identify and respond quickly to emerging issues
    • Excellent interpersonal, time management and communication skills
    • Must be an effective team player
    • Excellent negotiation, facilitation and conflict resolution skills
    • Strong computer skills and proficiency in MS Word, MS PowerPoint, MS Excel and MS Project

    Location: 10 Peel Centre Drive, Brampton

    Hours of work: 35 hours/week; Monday to Friday.
