    Planner

    Public Works – Transportation

    Contract Full-Time, Duration: 13 Months

     

    The Role…..

    Reporting to the Supervisor of Transportation System Planning you will analyze transportation data and assist the Principal Planners in developing transportation forecasts, conducting transportation analysis and carrying out transportation studies.

     

    Responsibilities:

    • Maintain and update the Peel Travel Demand Forecasting Model, assist in model application to support planning studies and research and implement enhancements to the model
    • Prepare traffic forecasts for Regional/Municipal Class Environmental assessments for new roads and roads proposed to be widened
    • Research transportation data and trends using sources such as the Transportation Tomorrow Survey, the MTO Commercial Vehicle Survey and Cordon Count program
    • Participate with other GTA Regions and the University of Toronto Joint Program in Transportation with projects to analyze people and goods movement activity
    • Respond to written, telephone and counter requests for information from Regional departments, consultants, governmental and non-governmental agencies and the general public
    • Analyze specific components of Transportation Planning projects and representing the department on various committees
    • Other duties as assigned

     

    Qualifications:

    • University degree in Engineering, Planning or related field
    • Master’s degree or further post-secondary education would be considered an asset
    • Minimum 3 years of experience in transportation planning environment
    • Knowledge of travel demand forecasting, transportation policy and analysis, transportation systems evaluation and long-range transportation network assessment
    • Excellent problem-solving, report writing and computer skills
    • Experience with transportation modeling and databases such as EMME and Dynameq
    • Ability to work in a multidisciplinary team setting using well-developed interpersonal, communications and analytical skills
    • Strong project and time management skills
    • Membership in PEO or OPPI/CIP would be considered an asset

     

    Location: 10 Peel Centre Drive, Brampton, ON

    Hours of Work: Contract Full-Time for a duration of 13 months, working 35 hours a week
