    Manager, Family Health

    Public Health – Family Health


    Our Public Health team is looking for a Manager in the Family Health Division to provide strategic and operational leadership to a team of Public Health professionals while ensuring the effective delivery of programs and services to the residents of Peel. Public Health is committed to using rigorous methodology through end-to-end public health methods and tools to meet the effectiveness of those programs and services.

    Family Health is Nurturing the Next Generation. We are focused on improving health outcomes for families with young children in Peel within four Foundations of Health. Within this framework, you will be responsible for creating optimal health in the early years of life, specifically improving outcomes within the Nutrition and Healthy Growth and Development Foundations.  Setting a vision for the section to deliver on health outcomes for young families regarding nutrition, physical activity, sedentary behaviour, screen time and sleep is important to this role.

    As a leader you will be responsible for coaching and mentoring direct reports to achieve outcomes within Nurturing the Next Generation’s strategic priorities.

    You will be directly responsible for supervising a management team of Supervisors who work with staff at the population level to address disparities for the diverse population they serve. Through active engagement with multiple community partners, you will build and sustain connections to advance work.

    You will be accountable for… 

    • Setting the strategic direction for the Section, ensuring integration with the Divisional, Departmental and Corporate strategy including routine reporting and measurement of specific strategic actions
    • Leading the identification, assessment, analysis and synthesis of health status data to inform population level, public health approaches for the section
    • Leading the planning, development, implementation and evaluation of standards set out under relevant legislative requirements within the section
    • Leading, influencing and motivating a multi-disciplinary team of professional supervisors and front line bargaining and non-bargaining staff
    • Leading change management processes within the section and ensuring that knowledge translation and continuing education occurs to support this
    • Participating and providing  guidance on technical and Human Resource issues, ensuring consistent application of Regional Policies/Procedures, labour negotiations, and Regulated Health Professional Standards
    • Developing, recommending and administering the budget for the section
    • Acting as a key liaison and interpreter of information between all levels of the organization and with external stakeholders
    • Building relationships and partnerships with internal and external stakeholders to participate in joint initiatives  

    We require…

    • A Master’s Degree in a relevant discipline (e.g. Master of Public Health, Master of Nursing, Masters of Health Science in Nutrition, Master of Public Administration,)
    • A Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing, Nutrition or other health profession
    • Current professional certificate of competence from a regulatory college as appropriate
    • 5 years of progressive management experience in a Public Health setting
    • Strategic thinking with the ability to synthesize complex information
    • Expert knowledge of population health principles and public health interventions
    • Demonstrated experience in research, information analysis and evaluation
    • Expertise in program planning, project management, change management and customer/client engagement
    • Expertise in budget management
    • Effective interpersonal skills and the ability to build and maintain effective internal and external relationships
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
    • Ability to travel to various sites within the Region of Peel (Mississauga, Brampton, Caledon) as required

    Hours of work: 35 hours/week – Monday through Friday; flexibility with hours as needed
