    Developer (Systems Analyst), Program Solutions

    Digital & Information Services - Information, Systems & Technology Services

    Contract Duration: Approximately (13) months

     

    Reporting to the Supervisor, Program Solutions the Developer brings expertise to the team ensuring that applications meet effectively and efficiently compatibility, information and process automation requirements of the client. The Developer is also responsible for application support and prompt resolution of complex application problems in the technical environment.

     

    Responsibilities: 

    • Accountable for maintenance and testing of the business application components to ensure that the delivered application meets effectively and efficiently the information and process automation requirements of the client
    • Assist in performing production application support as needed
    • Sustain and support solutions to ensure applications are available, well maintained, and satisfy business requirements
    • Actively maintain application documentation and technical support information in the ISTS Business Application Repository, and contribute collaboratively to the ISTS Knowledge Base, to share relevant Application knowledge across the organization
    • Contribute to technical requirements, IT project plans, operating plans, implementation plans, and ongoing support of IT services delivery
    • Assist with operational support models and related roles and responsibilities across the Technology, business stakeholder, and external vendor support teams as needed
    • Research and provide development estimates and recommendations to stakeholders for development/enhancement of system components or vendor applications
    • Work with internal IT teams to contribute to solution architecture, external design and internal design based on established architectural standards as well as prepare related documentation
    • Assist various departments with applications assessment, remediation, testing and migration
    • Create/update install instructions with regards to application upgrade, repackaging and virtualization
    • Assist with usability and solution acceptance testing to ensure agreed upon requirements are properly supported by the delivered solution, and conduct Threat Risk Assessment (TRA)
    • Conduct preliminary functional testing with end-user before deployment
    • Work/Coordinate with help desk as required
    • Reviewing the application list identified for specific departments and perform technical assessment with respect to compatibility with the operating system and other integrations
    • Support installation and resolution of issues with regards to the application operating system compatibility, and other technical coordination during testing
    • Record and report application assessment issues and participate in investigation, troubleshooting, resolution and remediation.
    • Identifies opportunities to improve IT efficiency and effectiveness of the Section and/or the Division
    • Maintains and upgrades skills in relation to new technologies
    • Performs all duties in accordance with ISTS standards and procedures

    Qualifications: 

    • University or college graduate in computer science or related discipline with minimum 3 years application development experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience
    • Expert knowledge and proficiency with one or many of the following: Oracle, SQL Server, PowerBuilder, Salesforce, Visual Studio (C#, VB6, VB.NET, ASP.NET), Java, HTML, XML, Web Services, IIS, Toad, Erwin, DB Scripting (PL_SQL, Transact SQL), Crystal Reports, SharePoint, PowerBI, Hyperion, MS-Access and other similar application development tools
    • Familiarity with best practices for software versioning/release management and tools for example GitHub, Visual SourceSafe or similar.
    • In-depth knowledge of object-oriented design (OOD), object-oriented programming (OOP), unified modeling language (UML), model driven architecture (MDA), and service-oriented architecture (SOA)
    • Proficiency and experience in gathering user requirements, understanding business processes and creating solutions based upon requirements
    • In-depth knowledge of integrating complex applications on the desktop and across wide and local area networks is essential
    • Aware of best practices in Information Technology service delivery such as SDLC, PMBOK, COBIT and ITIL
    • Able to travel to various regional locations; and able to work evenings, weekends and holidays, on-call rotation and/or shift work
    • Demonstrated attention to detail, practical problem-solving abilities, ability to proactively identify opportunities and quickly implement solutions

    Location: 10 Peel Centre Drive, Brampton

    Hours of work: 35 hours/week; Monday to Friday.
